Just stay away from Kinmount.....that's where the men are men and the sheep are scared!

Hey! I have buddies in Kinmount. I'll never be able to look them in the eye again.
Then again the boys from Oro used to thrash us soundly. They are even more manly down that way.

Know why it's called Kinmount? .... Cause Cousinfu#%er was already taken. I believe it's somewhere down in Arkansas.

Re: Think I\'m gonna retire

Lots of good ideas and humour. Thanks. Got some messages from some old friends today too. Dropped my last tree for a while today then watched one of my new guys do the rest, probably another 10 30+ cm ash we were pulling over with the truck. He's only just started running a saw and there wasn't a single notch and back cut that I wouldn't be proud to show y'all.
We'll see what a good long break will do,but I'm not holding out much hope.

You could try a headhunters service. Get some guidance. They may see something in your resume skill set that you don't. Maybe see a fit in another industry you haven't thought of.

Re: Think I\'m gonna retire

At the end of the day, you've got to id your skills and be able to present them to a prospective employer. Headhunters will open a door you have to be able to walk in. Career counselor is what you're looking for.

Dude- everyone wants to quit a couple of times over their career. You've invested alot into arb. Can you work for someone? Or rework your schedule.

Re: Think I\'m gonna retire

This topic reminds me of back in 2005 when I decided to quit doing tree and landscape work because it seemed rather difficult, so I got a sales job in southern Oregon, where we moved summer of that year for a change.

In 5 weeks I seemed to ache more from not "working" than from working more physically.

It was barely 2 more weeks later I decided to start looking for pruning and landscape business. By 2008, we were back near Portland and Beaverton, I had figured out better ways to pace myself, etc., and was enjoying pruning and landscape stuff more than ever.

Biggest help was losing 60 lb.s about a year ago, and I feel better now than when back in my 30s, about 20 years ago.

If anything, I'd add photography now because I love it a lot, but couldn't totally pry myself from tree and landscape care, even it if meant doing some consulting work.

Re: Think I\'m gonna retire

I AM for it... If you don't have passion for trees, then there are certainly other ways to make a living, with a lot less stress, and hopefully more $$$... I'd look into real estate investment. Fix and flip, or fix and rent and wait for the market to come back, which it already has started to do.

I quit dancing a few years ago.. Lost the passion.. I just didn't want to do that to the women... Wouldn't want to do ti to the trees either.. Good luck with it..

I' like to hear how your exit goes. Let us know..Thanks

Re: Think I\'m gonna retire

I'd only warn you of the greener grass syndrome. Every job has it's stresses and demands. It's finding the field and particular role you are most suited to and passionate about. Do some informational interviews with people in those roles and find out what the real situation is before jumping into it.
