The new Ford \'Econoline\'

I know that vans aren't that popular for arbos in the US. Vans have gotten me around for 95% of my travels. The best vehicle I ever owned was an '82 E250. It was worn out when it went to the salvage yard with 240+k on it.

When I've been in Europe I see that a lot of arbos use small van vehicles. For some reason the first, and only, one like it in the US is the Ford Transit.

Now Ford is replacing the Econoline. the new one will be built in Kansas City. Here's a peek:

Re: The new Ford \'Econoline\'

The transit is something I've thought about in the past. One concern I have is putting fuel and saws in the cab with me. I did it in the past with a crew cab truck and hated it. Is there a way to get around this? Air tight box or something. I love the van idea and think it would be a good advertising vehicle.

A sealed box would work. Pelican-type or look at military surplus too.

Adding louvers and vents to keep fresh air moving helps a lot too.

This is the one that is above the rest in the RV world. They do comeup on Ebay and used too:

The Transit is intriguing. Some of the people who are using them say that they're underpowered. Even considering the goal of economy it seems like a bit more HP would help. Check the GVW too.

Another drawback of the American Transit is that the factory isn't supportive of pulling any trailer. There is plenty of info out there about this issue too.

Re: The new Ford \'Econoline\'

Those damn Euros get all the good stuff. Small diesels and now better towing(in the little vehicles).

The transit does seem a little under powered. The Econline look a little more versitile.
