The joke I got fired over

weird.

the joke is an old one:

Dark humor is like food

Not everybody gets it.
Ha...it's so benign that people can't invasion it as "the joke". I like dark humor. It seems to me to be a coping mechanism. When things don't make sense and can't be made to you either crumble or find a little odd humor in it and soldier on.

Thanks y'all. I can't tell you how much everyone's words here mean to me. I have some palms to trim for a neighbor, and I had dates booked already for the pruning focused guy that loves to bring me on to work big spready trees, and now that my schedule opened up he'll have more jobs to bring me on.

As for the PGE work, I am probably not gonna go into that, as the line clearance companies have real big egos, and they think of us lowly residential guys as being somehow less than them. I applied for them as a "journeyman tree climber", and they practically laughed in my face when I told them about the work I've done. They said I would have to apply to start at the bottom of their ladder, and that would mean a big pay cut, taking years before I get back to my current rates. Besides, those guys require their climbers to be on spurs for absolutely every climb, and I'm not about that. I have been preaching quality tree care since I was in the orchards.

I will be fine, and hopefully when my old logger buddy gets to start on the Firesafe Council gig, he will wanna bring me back on for the 6-12 months of that. He gets the more challenging bits of those contracts, like chiselbit, so that's hard work, but fun.

I really mean it when I say that you guys feel like real friends, which is not something I've found so much of around here. I wish I could invite you all over for a BBQ.

But, he wasn't smart enough to not show me all the ways he'd been lying on his job reports to avoid the hardest types of installs. HR will be hearing about that on Monday, and since I have a simple way for them to verify two lies, and they can't know how many more he's told them, I don't see him keeping his job any longer either.

Maybe you guys can team up and go work at a new company and try to get each other fired there too! You could film it and make it a reality show. You’ll be famous before you know it!

HR is not around to help with personal issues unless the issues are a threat to the companies functioning ability. HR is NOT an advocate for employees HR is the Palace Guard.

A Union is an advocate

BTW. That joke is heavy and complex. Not to be told among simple minds
I totally agree. I lost myself in the moment and forgot that crucial fact.

Many don't understand this. I had to have a "come to Jesus" meeting with some coworkers about some the things they were videoing at work and posting to Snapchat and Instagram. What one perceives as wacky fun on the job site can easily be interpreted as bad optics for the corporation.

And you better believe they scan forums like this if they catch wind of things an employee or former employee is saying. I know that one from personal experience from nearly 20 years ago.
