The Hitch Hiker

This may have been answered but, where do you attach your slack tending tether (ie. lanyard over the shoulder, neck bungee, whatever)

I imagine directly to the steel 'biner?

When spurring up a tree with a top line or when using a frog walker I will attach the Hitch Hiker carabiner to the ring on my bridge then attach my Torse shoulder strap to the same ring. This will keep the non loaded HH sliding up the rope while at the same time keeping the bridge in an upright, preloaded position. For working the tree you can just pull on the tail like you would with a Hitch Climber.

This tool is so fun to use.

Tommy,
How's it going? Did you get a chance to run it at the SRT Workshop? Will you be going down to the EXPO in Baltimore?

Cheers,
Donny

That's what I wanna know. I'd really like to buy one. Someone tell me where to send my money.

I don't want to speak for Paul, but just be patient a little while longer and all will be revealed.

Paul is still waiting for certified testing from Yale and then they'll be available to everyone.

A few of us SRT guys have been field testing them and offering Paul input. Dave's idea about the dogbone was awesome!

I definitely got my eyes on this one too. It kinda makes me wish I hadn't spend the money on the rope wrench.

Just had my first climb on the HH. Dead wood and pruning on an Elm at my sisters place. It was great! Did half the tree Drt and switched to Srt for the second half. It was seamless. I was more skeptical of the Drt performance but it was MUCH smoother than I had anticipated; I hardly missed my hitch climber pulley.

I agree, both the Hiker and the Wrench have their places but this tool will definitely change my approach to climbing.

What an awesome time to be in this industry! Much thanks to all you guys coming up with these tools to make our work more efficient.

Oh yes. Yesterday, I spent quite a few hours trying different rope/hitch combos. I think for my weight (210 with gear), I preferred a 24 strand DB climb line between 11.5mm~12.0mm and an 8mm prisik wrapped 7 times.

My hand needs to learn to tend the hitch only since it never seems to bind up. In DdRT, I would grab the line above the hitch with my entire hand and pull down until my pinky finger opened the hitch, squeezing to add friction. With the HH, I find I can simply hold the hitch alone, which makes more coils work for me so far.

Like the RW (which I LOVE), it seems the hitch will have a great life expectancy with the HH.

Did a few +30' bombing swings and felt nice control.

I would like to see the HH side plates rounded...something like a Gri-Gri, but perhaps not so much (more like a HC pulley). This would help in fairleading when controlling the hitch with one hand and tending below the system with another.

wesSpur has 'em but said something about "preorders" arriving sometime in 2013? I am getting SRT geared-up and I'd hate to spend the cash and have to wait to climb SRT. Better to go with a RW for now and wait for Gen2?

Times are tight for this little pollywog, and though it'd be great to have both arrows in the quiver, I have to be a little choosy.

Hey, question here. The stopper knots you tie on this HH, don't they jam up?or is there something about the design that keeps them from doing so?
