The Golden Spruce / Hadwin's Judgement

evo

Been here much more than a while
Location
My Island, WA
I'm not sure if they are going to bring the film state side or not, but I for one will be traveling to BC if I have to. For any of you who have read The Golden Spruce this should be a good film. Also I've searched high and low for Hadwin's Manifesto from calling the news papers who are cited for publishing it, and also library's from Seattle to Alaska.. If any one knows where to find a copy please let me know.

Evo, there's just no way I can get to BC to see this, but I would love to (both, actually...see the film AND go to BC). Can you give more information as this unfolds? I will look up the book and see what it's all about. I assume the film was created around the book?

Sure thing. We can chuck a rock at Vancouver Is from here, so I'm trying to get the film showed in our mini island theater. I've read the book a few times, and while I feel the author has taken some liberties it's a good read. Apparently Hadwin wrote a 11 page manifesto which is quoted in the book. It was published in the local papers up north, but I cannot track it down. It's no where on the internet, I even have taken the request to the local librarians (they love this stuff). They called every newspaper between seattle to alaska to no avail...

Thanks for the reply, Evo. So you say the manifesto was quoted in the book...do you mean that portions were quoted, or the entire manifesto? I'm guessing portions, otherwise you wouldn't be trying to track down a publication that contains it. Either way, it's all interesting to me and I really want to give that book a read.

Chris, thanks for posting. I didn't know a DVD was available. Just ordered!

Reg posted about this elsewhere and lives closer to where it happened. He may have info about the manifesto. Or film maker? Docu makers are supprisingly responsive to inquires as they are passionate about their topic.

I watched the film today, Ill be seeking out this book for sure. Thanks for the lead. The small bits of the manifesto quoted in the movie were powerful, any luck in your search?

Just watched it earlier this week in Vancouver ; phenomenal movie, some of the producers and the main actor were there as well for a Q&A at the end. Very, very insightful and thought-provoking movie. Great follow-up to the book

I am in contact with the film's producers and working on getting a copy of the manifesto and will let you guys know if I can get one.
If you manage to do that it would be great~! I personally have given up for a while, but this renews my interest. I'll be downloading the video tonight!

Just received this email from the producer this morning. For those of us that would like to read Grant's manifesto, we may have to wait awhile unfortunately.

"Dear Chris,

Thanks for getting in touch and for your support of the film.

I’m afraid the manifesto is the property of the Hadwin Estate. It’s obviously something that John and I have discussed, but, for various reasons, we have decided not to push for it’s publication. We have tried to distill the essence of his political and social vision into the book and film respectively.

I’ll let you know if this situation changes, and you are not the first to have asked for it.

Sorry not to be able to assist at this time.

All the best,

Sasha.

According to the book it was published in its entirety in one of the local papers, just need to narrow down the date range and search the archives.
