The best configuration for mini skid highway, what plywood dimensions?

Thanks for all the articulating inputs. But the goal of this post is to figure out the most sensible plywood configuration that has been already accomplished (4x4). This post is for people who can only have one does it all machine, tree material handling AND digging and grading. We r well aware of the advantages of the articulated machine for tree work, but it can not compare to a mini when comes to digging n other dirt or rock work. And I can only own one for the foreseeable future.
sorry for the derail, mini skids are great and a bit better for digging for sure. Just always hated laying mats. and I have wanted to create a carrier like the guy from Madison, but so many different truck configurations -- did not intend or mean to be slamming your skid

I only lay down mats for my mini skid once or twice a year, when the yard is really nice and I have lots of trips to make. I would lay down for a wheeled loader in that circumstance... But, wheeled is best for production companies with high employee turnover. One wrong move with tracks and you're ripping turf.

I'm tempted by the 2x8 because the bmg should be able to grapple that 2' diameter. Problem is that the grapple and teeth rip the plywood. Seems like a cut up rubber tire could help somehow...

The 4x4 on pallets seems cool too, but it seems like a lot of work time to put on the forks, run the pallets out, unstack, put on grapple, work, put on forks, stack, etc.

If stacked on edge, pinch them.

Tyler Durden said rope gables with garden house to make the handle stand-up a bit, stiffly.

What's a rope gable?

I feel like I'm a little rough with the grapple when I pinch them, but maybe I just need more sheets so I don't punch through. Thanks for the tip.
