After reading a scare tactic claiming a price increase of 30-50% on arborist supplies sent in an email I have decided to never buy anything from Treestuff again.

That is not how tarriff increases translate into prices. I don't care to get into all the nitty gritty details of what is going on so I will just say I don't appreciate a fear mongering email aimed to generate more sales. A 50% tarriff on say steel will open up new buying opportunities and competition. Even so the cost of the material is a fraction of the finished product. 50% more cost of one material does not mean the end product on the shelf is going to be 50% more.

Like Trump, dislike Trump, like increasing manufacturing in the u.s., maybe not so concerned not the point here.

Tree stuff is already way higher in price than just about any other online retailer. As energy costs decrease we should eventually see a price reduction on a lot of products.

Treestuff has raised prices so much that it takes a 25% off coupon to get a price even close to what another retailer has listed as just the normal price.

This kind of sucks I agree. But there is a chance that products here in the US will not only be competitive maybe even better than Europe. Hopefully in the next couple years stuff will get better. Arbsession seems to have reasonable prices

Which manufacturers in the US make good chainsaw protection worth wearing? Good helmets worth wearing? Harnesses? Pretty much all the best stuff in a lot of areas in our industry is coming from overseas. It is completely ignorant to think that US manufacturing can magically pop up factories and make stuff to compete with what has been imported for years as our economy has gone up and up and up.

The causes of the struggles of the working class in this country is more from being stuck in a polarized two party system that continually bends to the will of the corporate puppeteers and military industrial complex, the decline of unions, and the inability for the populace to understand what is going on and inability to join together to do anything about it. Polarizing politics and keeping everyone arguing about abortion and trans rights and other nonsense issues keeps everyone from actually talking about the stuff that really matters like the economy, healthcare, and perhaps even clean air and water if we can agree that those things matter.

Impose term limits on the Supreme Court and Congress and eliminate the ability for people in Congress to become lobbyists for set amounts of time and also make it so they and their family members can’t invest in the stock market and you’d likely see a shift towards sanity in this country.

Seems like you got a good conversation going. If you ever want a topic to have more engagement and be taken more seriously I would suggest leaving out personal dispersion and just go for the business aspects.

I believe you can go back and change your headline/topic if you agree.

I lost track of metal prices but got a sense of "that seems steep" on an aluminum tubing quote yesterday. Practically, discouragingly high - didn't buy it. I know retail suppliers play get the highest sale $ games but this seemed beyond that as these guys were normally reasonable.

....
Labonville chaps for chainsaw protection (not sure about pants... ArborWear tried to manufacturer in US, but the rumor is Carhartt told those manufacturers "if you make for them, you won't make for us").

Monkey Beaver for the harness.

Not sure about helmets.

The thing about this shit that really chaps my ass is that the cost to sell an item doesn't need to go up by tye same amount as the tariff. if the raw material costs 50% more, but the energy cost doesn't change much, and they aren't paying the workers 50% more, and the transportation costs aren't 50% more, then why should the final price change by that amount? If that price increase was really just about the added cost that the manufacturer doesn't want to eat, why shouldn't goods only increase by that dollar amount?

Thats sort of a mish mash of arbo lore\\

that is what happened in the earliest days of Arborwear. The success of their original pants caught Carharts eye. They sent ultimatum letters to the mill who made the cloth for the two companies. BOth had different fiber recipes for their material but you'd have to be into textiles to even notice.

When the mill got the letter from Carhart they told AW they couldn't make the material for AW any more. That lead to AW going overseas.

It had nothing to do with safety pants and Carhart

I like Nick Bonner, consider him a friend. He is a hard worker who does an excellent job for his company and the tree industry in general.

A tariff is not based on just the material it is made from. It is based on its market value. Also, isn't it a sad position to be in that we are entirely dependent on other nations to provide quality tree gear for us? I remember when American made stood for top quality on many items.

All the good gear comes from overseas. These tariffs are going to raise prices eventually. Hopefully the head Cheeto pulls his head out of his ass sooner than later and the economic free fall doesn’t continue another week.

Treestuff sucks and has since Luke sold. Wesspur and Arbsession are my go to shops.
Ive used arbsession quite a bit lately and yes always pleasant to deal with.

I was referring to the steel and aluminum tarriffs he mentioned in the email. It will be great to see more American made products.

Right, that is why the cost of the goods on the shelf aren't going to go up in relation to the tarriff percentage. Unless of course people believe they can get away with it which is why a free market will help with that.

I could change the headline but tend to just like going with my gut. This is the second time that snot of a guy pissed me off. First when he justified removing a review of a "made in china" product which was inferior to the more expensive made in usa counterpart. He said they take down vulgar reviews or something.

My review wasn't vulgar at all. Using the term snot is vulgar, the title of my post may be offensive to some. The review I wrote was not. It merely pointed out the inferior junk being priced slightly lower than the american made product and Nick must not have liked that.

That is not the full point of the tarriffs, sure bringing manufacturing back is a major part of it but also trying to create fair and equal trade. Prices on products we buy are not going to increase to the point of what the media will have you believe.
