That dang 2" limb

So if a tree canopy is 10% tree and 90% air, what are the chances lol. Picked a nice crotch 60 feet up, it way layed open probably 120 degrees. But wait what is that little limb just before it, nothing I thought. Well it must have been a hockey goalie is a past life because it blocked my throw bag not once, not twice but three times. How many times can you hit the same 2" limb 60 feet up with a throw bag? 3 apparently.

It got even better Steve, the 3rd try bounced and looped around something. Now it's stuck, tie another bag on to the other end of the line. Shoot that up, thankfully it was clean. Tie the rope on, feed it over the tip and move the stuck bag and throw line off to the side. Gear up, climb to the tip, unloop the bag and remove it. Drop the line clear and finally I can go to work. What a way to start a climb.

I know I'm not much of a goal scorer with all the times I hit the branch I want to go over/be adjacent to. Those are now dubbed 'the goal posts'.

If only Nick Bonner could have kissed my throwballs...

That's the way I start every climb. There is another way? o_O

Minimum 40 throws today, trying to get a line into the bitternut hickory in my backyard. Its canopy is like a barbed wire cage. Too much friction for an 8 oz bag to come down. I can barely get a 12 oz to break through the outer layer of twigs. Can't throw high enough to drop it in from above. On the good throws, the line would inevitably snag on something on the ground. Tried throwing side arm, between the legs, over the head backwards. About every tenth throw was wild, like a girl throwing overhand. If I had to do this for a living, I'd be fired before lunch. I did manage to get one bag to pass through the canopy but lost sight of it while airborne, and never heard it hit the ground. Figured it went over my roof to the front yard but as I pulled the line back out, the throw weight popped up out of my toilet vent stack. Thank god it was still dry.

ML I hit the same wrong spot three times in a row with a Big Shot and a RopeKnight at 75 feet. Then I realized I was looking AT that spot rather than looking at the open air in the crotch I wanted.

Highway Patrol notice people do that with single power poles along clear stretches of road too.

Tuebor: I had your scenario happen one to many times where you get your crotch but the bag won't come down. Since then I have switched throw bags and only throw 14-16oz. Limits my height on certain trees but I've got 8-12oz for those.

Yesterday I went up 5 trees and threw 7 times. The mojo was flowing. Last fall I spent an HOUR trying to put a line in a tall woods pine tree. AN HR!! Longest I've ever thrown without giving up (didn't have any other option) it's not good for me, I get way to bent out of shape over "wasted time" like that and it puts me in a bad mood to climb in/ makes me rush. Take 3 deep breaths, a swig or two of water, and stop swearing lol

Mojo indicator!
I like that.

I feel like tossing the throw line it is an indicator of something, not quite in our control. Life?

I have also hit same limbs at least three times. Seen stuff you could never do if you tried.

The best is hitting first time in front of customers, as they are realizing what you are doing.

Best advice is to remain calm and positive attitude. Oh and use throw line with 250lb breaking strength, also have back up line and weights! Once had a line we could not break once it got stuck. No second line to set and retrieve. Hooked it to the truck, about broke the tree. Did not want to leave 50ft of yellow streamer at the customers.

Clear your mind, visualize the preciseness of the swing and finger release and power needed, breathe on the release and follow through. Visualize it's what all great goal scorers do.

Happy freezing rain day y'all

Yes, I had to take a break; went in the house and ate a bowl of cereal. I knew I was getting rushed and tired, and that leads to accidents.

Yesterday? Second throw - boom! With that luck I decided to place a second line. Two more throws. Two lines, four throws, five minutes. Mojo spared me from buying an APTA yet another day.

I have a large Cottonwood in my back yard.... no matter how good my throwing has been at work this tree almost always gives me serious trouble when throwing into it, maybe it's something about throwing at home?

I have gotten "lazy" lately and have been attaching my climb to throw ball one way or another to pull it up in he tree as opposed to attaching climb line to throw line. I love when it takes me forever to get a good TIP, attach climb line to throw ball, pull it up and the ball somehow comes untied? and my line and throw ball fall out the back side leaving the throw line alone way up in the tree, love it, all you can do is laugh at that point.
