Thailand pictures

Location
Minnesota
I finally have a day to relax and access to the internet. It has been a very busy time here so far. I hope you all enjoy the pictures.

This is one of the largest trees I have touched before. I was wondering, is that a root flare or a trunk flare that I am leaning against?

Re: Thaland pictures

This is the coolest temple I have seen since I have been here. Most temples are very brightly colored. This temple everything is white. It is located in Chiang Rai.

Re: Thaland pictures

One morning we got up at 4am to go to the top of a mountain named Phu Chi Fa to watch the sunrise. All you can see is distant mountain tops and a sea of clouds below. This mountain is very close to the border of Thailand and Loas, so behind me you are looking at Loas.

Re: Thaland pictures

This is my main transportation here, everyday I want to go to work I hop on my elephant.

Only kidding. I went to an elephant camp where they give elephant rides. These elephants were once used for logging. They put on a show, showing how the elephants could be used for dragging and stacking logs.

I think I could see a use for them in arboriculture. They could easily be trained to use a handsaw and would be able to have an increadible reach! Otherwise instead of a bucket, just hop ontop of your elephant!

Re: Thaland pictures

Everyone here comments on how big I am. Sure I have to duck through many doorways and my feet hang off the end of the bed here. But I dont think I look that much bigger than anyone else here.

What do you think?

Thats it for now.

Re: Thaland pictures

Gus, cool pics! FWIW according to Mr Shigo (a week ago) its a trunk flare, if you find a root flare, he wants to hear from you!

Re: Thaland pictures

Thanks for posting the pics. It's always interesting to have a geography lesson on Treebuzz :)

If you have a chance to see Angor Wat in Cambodia be sure to take it. I worked with some Cambodians and one of the guys brought in a tour book. The place is fantastic.

Re: Thaland pictures

your trunk flare pic looks like mine, taken at rumination's hangout. kinda stretches the definition since it looks more like root to me. They don't have these trees in new hampshire, so I wouldn't get too analistic about the terminology.
