On May 19 the Texas chapter held their 2012 comp in Austin, TX. The winner was multi-time former champ Miguel Pastenes. Miguel finished indisputably well above the other three finalists, which included reigning champ Abram Zies, who took second. Vicente Pena took third and Jackson McIntosh fourth.
We often allow the top out-of-town finisher to do a Masters run, and this year that option went to James Earhart of the Mid-Altantic chapter, who also was the top overall finisher in the prelims. Two other outstanding out-of-town finishes came from Matt Starks and Jeremy Williams, both from Mid-west chapter, who both finished in the top ten (out of 30).
Jeremy also won the "Spirit of the Compettion" award, for contestant with the best sportsmanship, for the second time.
The competition was preceded by a fantastic one day workshop with Mark Chisholm. As always when Mark is teaching, it was an information-packed workshop.
Congrats to all the winners.
