Tenex Chainsaw Lanyard

Any ideas how to attach a ring to this? I'm trying to recreate the webbing lanyard that has the clip ring, where you can carry your chainsaw close to your saddle or have the longer lanyard while saw is in use.

Make another, and when you make the eye for the dog snap, make the ytail super long, and pull it out where you want the ring. Add the ring, put in a weave and rebury the tail. Boom.

Or... When you make the loop for the saw install a locking brummel, install ring, and another locking brummel then bury. Just make sure you have enought tail to accomedate for the extra brummel.

Actually, I think I'll try FSquirrel25's method. All of the ideas would work great. That's why I asked here. Great resource!

Jeff, just realized that I'd definitely need the ring with the large eye, not near the dog snap. But that was probably a misprint anyway. Like this:
2 in 1 Chainsaw Lanyard
I think doing it with an extra brummel will keep the ring hands-free while I do the final bury.

Might not even matter, but I did just a straight bury for the large eye (no locking brummel) in effort to keep it stream-lined for easier girth hitching to the saw. Would the brummels get in the way?

Actually, if you think about it, you don't need to do two complete locking Brummel splices. Just 1 1/2 splices. The ring goes in the middle one. The third splice will lock in the ring.

Post a picture when you're done !

That is what I was planning Marden. Will definitely get up a pic when it's done.

One more question though; should I do one brummel, insert ring, do another brummel exactly as first, then use the opposite end of the line to do the final locking brummel, and then bury? Or should I lock the 2nd brummel?

Hope that makes sense. Thanks.

Just for giggles, I threw this splice together with the ring in place using some Ice Tail I have laying around.

You do the first locked Brummel 'exactly' as if without the ring. However, insert the ring for the second pass, then add a third Brummel with the short rope end BEFORE burying the end into the core.

Note: For reference, I intentionally left a larger loop in the last Brummel end as it passes into the core for final bury.

The only caveat: This works because the eye will be girth-hitched around the chainsaw. If not, the rope at the eye would be pulled through where the ring is when weighted.

I am not sure from the picture, but it looks to me like where you did your final bury, you need to add one more Brummel to 'lock' the ring. Take another look at the photo I posted and you will see there is one more pass.

Yeah, I noticed it looked different. Did my first McDonald Brummel on that one.

So, I did the initial locking brummel (2 passes), then another with the ring, then a bury.

This is one I put together a couple months ago. Locking Brummel on the dog snap and the ring. The leg coming out with the screw link was woven (brummel) into the main leg of the lanyard with about 10" of bury. I went with the screw link on the end so I can switch to any saw and not have to take the lanyard off to girth hitch the saw on to it. I stiched it, some whipping and shrink tube over that. I also threw in some bungee cord to take out some of the slack when the saw is hanging on the ring.

Quick question to go along with this - is there any concern that there is no "break-away" feature when making a lanyard out of tenex?

I use a normal 1" webbing lanyard to attach my saw to my belt, and it doesnt have the break away strap on it. If i am going to be cutting something sketchy like a storm damaged piece or something that could grab the saw, i will detach the lanyard from my harness before i even make the cut. On normal work, I am not too worried as any saw snatch that might occur would most likely be miniscule/an annoyance as opposed to a real safety concern, and where i attach my saw lanyard to my belt, it is just an accessory loop so if anything disastrous did happen it would break free from there.

That makes sense - keeping it hooked to an accessory loop. Does anyone happen to know what the breaking strength of the red loop on the back of the treemotion is?
