Tallest East Coast tree

Thanks for this account!
Liriodendron's were a challenging tree when I was learning to climb in NY in the 70's...those giant limbs were intimidating to get over! We have some monsters growing here in Seattle.

Good to see those east coast boys on their toes.

Nice looking trunk.

That is a great story to read on a Sun. morning. I have been in some giant Tulips around here and remember working in some huge ones in NJ esp. in E. Orange ...over houses.

Magnolia on steroids.

Very cool stuff.

My tulip, no means a giant, but not small either, is in full bloom right now and flower pedals are starting to rain down today. Just a shame they are a color that blends in with the foliage and not shocking pink or something.

I love the tree but they don't like clay base very much. We don't plant them unless requested. Most of the real big ones in this town are but a memory. Terrible droughts and extreme storms with lightning have taken a big toll on them.

Ambrosia beetles following stress which puts those holes in the base usually close the deal on them. Onyx give some control.

Lucky these giants are in the woods among associates.

Nice job on the video, that long pan down from the top was excellent. I kept thinking "ok almost at the bottom", and the trunk kept on going. Effectively showed what a monster that tulip is!
