Take down of limb-zilla

[ QUOTE ]
Nice work. What did you do with the cedar logs?

[/ QUOTE ]

They will be milled into limber. Normally Cedars that big are rotten in the middle, this one was clear to the stump.
Thanks.

Nice work, treebarber! What did the tree scale out to? Was it sold to a mill, or going to a craftsman?

Do I know ya? I don't think so...

Did ya see my recent thread? My wood craftsman tells me finished tables such as we'll have three of would sell for $1200 or so each!!! One for me, one for my awesome customer, and one for ??? http://www.treebuzz.com/forum/showflat.p...true#Post134667

Yes I did have two lanyards and a climbing line, I know I'm a big sissy. Thats the way I roll.
I did use a few wedges up in the tree, every one fell to the ground after the cut. I asked you once about using wedges. You said you don't tie them off how do you not loose them?

[/ QUOTE ]

Hey whatever you're comfortable with.
I just put the wedge back in my pouch as soon as the piece lifts off of it. It's likely a better idea to have them tied off, I have dropped one before. That is a big cedar to be sound, looks like it was probably a young tree.

Here's a pic of an old one, this was a tall tree and the clients didn't even think about taking it down until we suggested it. They were glad we did after they saw this stump.

Nice stump, Gord! Reminds me of one we logged a few years ago. Similar butt rot.....lucky for us, the scaler/grader was in a good mood that day, as the defect deductions were maybe only 30%- I was afraid it woulda been worse, or culled.

Roger,
thanks, the tree will be milled by one of his neighbors who has a band mill. I think the bigger pieces will have to be ripper to fit into the mill.
I did meet you at the Sequim logging show last year. It was a very brief introduction and hello.

I can smell the cedar all the way from here! I love working with that stuff. The only thing I don't like is how sticky the sap is.

Nut'n wrong with the amount of time you took on the job. It was what it was. I didn't see any huge machinery there. What did you use to move the logs around?

Thanks,
I also like working with cedar, it cuts easy, weighs less than most, smells good and has soft bark.
We bucked the logs into 10' pieces and towed them into a field with a pickup. They are going to be milled in the field.
