System vs Technique

Yes, you can use a roperunner for both MRS and SRS but it’s not really relevant to the classification of the way that the rope is being used, which seems to be the superceding dilemma that we’re trying to categorize.
Stan, this is a mix up response to 2 different post and points I made. The second, about certain devices being able to perform both mrt and srt is to highlight the ambiguity of the srs/mrs classification. Say you are climbing around on a stationary line with you unicender and call this srs in reference to your climbing system ie the sum of all parts involved. Now you untie your anchor and clip the standing line to your harness and magically your srs has become mrs but it's still the same gear? the same system. If that is the way we are going to classify we need a whole new set, sORmrs or any damn rs/rt you want! lol.

Haha! It really doesn't need to be that complicated. A system is the parts that form a whole when you change something, like your anchor point, you have changed a part of that whole and in so doing are now working within a new system.

So are you suggesting that we should not have any system designations because they can change based on how they are used? If so, do you beleve that will make things more clear and easier to discuss?

Yes, the presence of a system is a given. If you can use your srs to climb mrt how is that designation (srs) helpful?

Could you explain the specific differences and give an example of how you would use each in a different instance?

I believe I already have. An SRS system is used in the application of an SRT technique. It is perfectly OK that the same system tools can be used in an MRT technique just as many of these same system tools could be used in a lowering system or a hauling system.
