Suggestions for ropewalking gear?

For ascending recreationally, it would be safe. If a chest ascender were added, as rusty suggested, it would be a Frog walker system.

Is this a safe way to climb?

Last night I was at a party and was talking to an old friend who rock climbs. He said he's done a little recreational tree climbing too and was telling me about his setup.

He has a New Tribe saddle with a simple homemade lanyard setup. For climbing SRT, he uses a Petzl Ascension with an adjustable foot loop for his left foot made from a cam style trailer tie down strap. He uses a Petzl Pantin on his right foot. He "ropewalks" up the rope pushing the Ascension up as he lifts his left foot. He's tied into his saddle with a length of webbing to the Ascension.
When he gets to the top, he lanyards in, unhooks the two ascenders, then rappels down using a Petzl Stop or a figure 8.

It sounds safe to me, but wanted to make sure I'm not missing something... I have all of this minus the foot ascender and it seems pretty simple. If this IS an acceptable method of climbing, does it have a catchy name like RADS, Texas, Ropewalking, etc..
The ascension is made for doubled over static rope footlocking. Not single rope. a single hand ascender is what should be used here.

Turns out I was mistaken, he also has another ascender. I must have misunderstood when he said something like he was "using a basic Ascension" when he meant was "using a Basic and Ascension."

He sent me a link to this video which is very similar to his setup:
ATRAES Microfrog

It works. change overs suck. You may choose to place a prussik up higher to back up the toothed ascender

Lots of people climb SRT on a system like that but to be honest it’s inefficient, doesn’t offer an exit strategy if you encounter wasps (for example), and it’s kind of hard to bypass branches if your line isn’t perfectly isolated

Multiscender with knee ascender and footie plus chestie is unbeatable for efficiency. Just unhook knee ascender and footie plus chestie and blam action at the ready....

I think you will be really happy with those choices. One benefit I forgot about the HH is the fastest wearing element (hitch cord) doesnt require spliced or stiched eyes at an exact length, just bulk cordage.

That ascent only system you were contemplating does fine at going up. But then what were you going to do? Trees are big and fun to explore. That takes tools that can move laterally as well. Using one of the new multisenders allows you to go were you please, it just makes so much more sense.

Yeah, that's why I'm going with the HH. I can see how he switches over to rappel down, but it seems like more work than I want when limb walking.
