A big bummer this morning when in a imediate felling two different trees hit two different cars....
Stupidity to the top.
We had an immediate felling as there were problems expected with local environment groups. All permits were present but those guys seem to find many ways to stop the works when showing up.
So we started (i and a collegue) as the two fellers and a mobile crane to put the wood aside. It was next to a public road. And strong wind all day.
The contracter we subbed for had minor roadsigns (error 1) and we started to work.
After one hour a sawblade got bend by a tree that fell wrong by a windgust. So i send my collegue out to the shop for a new. I went on with felling alone and no watch on the road(error 2).
So at a point a long poplar (23 meters high and ø35cm at ground) had to come down. No way in that wind the crane could handle it. I cut it anyways (error 3). When coming down the wind grab it and it fell across the road on a passing germans car (volvo S80 half year old!) BIG BUGGER...
Some paperwork, photo's taken and at that time the guy from the council we were working for stopped with us. As he was afraid for those nature guys showing up that day he ordered us to go on and go on... He parked his car 10 meters from the crane and trees to fell (error 4)
My collegue went on felling and i was still handling the accident as another long thin poplar came across. My collegue cut one down and the same happend (error 5). This time it was on the councils car....(opel combo, 1 year old)
That really sucks big time twice within an hour
From that point on we closed the road (that council guy is also responsible for roadsafety
) as those two accidents made him awear that it would be MUCH safer.....
Still to late heh
The good thing, we did an 3 day estimate felling in one day.... No way that those two gained days can make up the damage done ...... But heck, it was an immediate showup and go whatever happens cut the sh!t down... We also have some possibility to count in our 'own risk' from insurances and get some money back.
Hate when this happens ..... bad day bad day bad day
