Stone age

I was removing a major cracked limb from a Box Elder on Monday and climbed a Linden next to it to access the cut. Another company had done the pruning of the Linden (as well as a Norway Maple) a couple days earlier. My client (the folks next door who have the Box Elder) asked me to look at the work and I was shocked to find they had 1.entered the tree via a STEP ladder (first limb was @ 6' up) 2. SPIKED the central trunk and did the pruning from there with a pole(clearly with only spikes and a lanyard)! I had heard about these types of folks but have yet to see it first hand! I hope these folks do some research soon and learn the error of their ways.

About 50% of the trees I've worked on in Bergen County NJ have spike injuries. When I had my business in NE PA, there were no climbers other than myself, that climbed without spikes.

Get used to it. If only the general public knew better. I often think about my yellow pages add saying something like "beware of hacks that wear spurs to trim!" or something to that effect. Would piss off every buisiness in town except for two or three!

There is allot of that going around. people dont relize a good tree worker from a bad one. they just dont know.
