Hi all,
I just registered for the STIHL Tour des Trees 2011 and and strating my fund raising efforts and thought that I would start here. If anyone wants to donate to the TREE Fund on my behalf the website is HERE to donate.

This year is the first time that the ride won't conflick with the ITCC and so I decided that I would ride for a couple of days to get a taste. My responsibility is to raise $1200.00, but my goal is $2000.00. Thanks to all for any support.

Good for you Mark! I've been threatening for the past 4 years to do this. I've been riding for 5 or 6 years now as exercise and love it, in fact I have a local charity ride this weekend that I'll be doing 50 miles. So, what is your training regimen? Maybe next year we could have a Tree Buzz team PAC NW would be an awesome ride! I'll try to get some $$ your way.

This is just a small taste for me to get me started. I haven't found the time (yet) to start riding regularly, so my training is my typical routines of circuit grainy, weight training and hockey 3 times a week. That's pretty much it unless you count the tree work and climbing.

I am looking forward to this. I would love to start a TreeBuzz team in the future. Maybe next year or the following one?

most important part of the training is saddle time. Most arborists are in good enough shape to hammer out 100 miles no problem, its just your butt that will kill you at the end of the day.

Corn starch or baby powder will be a must as well. The key to keeping your butt from chafing is learning to ride with your weight on your legs not just plunked down in the saddle.

Check your bike set up as well, be sure it's properly adjusted in all respects. Saddle height, fore-aft, handlebar stem length, etc... That machine should be floating under you while your arms and legs act as shock absorbers.

I might just join you next year!

The Portland ride will be sweet! I would tell you more about it but the route is a secret!

Never made heads or tails of the "Waldo" before, but the Avatar told me I might find something Collier related in the profile.

Sure enough.

LOL

Did you see the story about the bicycle seat some lady invented and developed? Think it was on KATU 2 website this week.

You said you were only riding a couple of days and not the whole ride. Which days? Have you seen the elevations on the TDT website? I think it is day 4 that is 100 miles on Skyline drive. I think I would ride the van that day. With T-10 days to push off, I think your butt is going to be broken in short order. When I started riding, the guy at the bike shop told me that there is a learning curve for the back side. Looks like your curve is going to be steep.

I'd be lying if I said that I didn't expect this to be a little painful due to my lack of prep. I picked up the bike today and plan to start riding on Saturday. I'll make it, but I will be more prepped next time!

I am riding on the first two days only and will miss the big ones. That may be a blessing!
