Stihl toolless oil/gas caps

i was wondering if anyone else has problems with the toolless cpas on the stihl saws. i think they totally suck. ive had many many experiences where they seem to be properly seated, pass the tug test, and then leak their contents all over the bucket. does anyone else have this problem? thanks

One of my 200t's has the same problem with the gas cap. It is a real pain to get the cap on properly. I've dumped fuel all over a few times because I thought it was tight and it wasn't. My other 200t and 440 are fine. I tried the cap of the 200t that works properly in the bad saw and it was fine. Seems the problem is with the cap itself and not the tank moulding on mine. I have to get a new cap one of these days. Annoying.

One of my first days as a groundman I filled up the stihl trim saw and put the toolless oil and gas caps on, the oil cap leaked all over the climbers saddle and rope while in the tree.

Got my @$$ chewed out that day. Bad design.

I've never had a single problem with the caps, not on my two personal stihls, nor the dozen or so employer stihls I've used.

Take a real close look at how they're designed to work, you should not have any problems.

Tip on filling the bar oil on a 200t: With the saw laying flat, bar to your left, and filling from more than half empty: fill to the brim. Roll saw slightly towards youself and give it a jiggle. A trapped air bubble will release, leaving exactly the room required to easily install the cap.

I doubt this was a design feature, but it sure is handy!

I used a 260 that had the same issue. Deal breaker for me. Saw ran like there was no tomorrow, but every time it needed fueled and oiled, time stood still....right at the time when I wanted to get back into the game.

They ROYALLY SUCK! my favorite cap style are the newer Huskys. they screw in but by hand with an o ring like the 338's and 395's. You can get used to the stihls but they are a pain. The 200T has better balance than the 338. But the 395 has slightly better than the 660 but the 395 is a little heaver but with more torque. It's a trade off. No perfect saw yet!

I love them. But I have had a few oil caps for the 192t mess up. I like to have a spare. But in the same sence, I have replaced more from gas caps of 660's, from getting the slit stripped, and the seal getting torn. There is going to be problems with any of them. I just get mad when a ground guy does it to me more than once. Can't beat a Stihl!

i have never had a problen with any of my fuel or oil caps but in the same token im a stickler about cleaning them well before i put them back on. there not going to seal properly with chips and sawdust all over them

I don't like them but have gotten used to them and don't have much trouble with them anymore. Once I filled my employer's 200t and he put it in his truck tool box and the oil poured all over his gear. Funny now but he was pissed at the time.

I only have a problem with my KombiMotor, not 361 211 or 192t. It developed, didn't have it right from the start. I have to push in very hard to get it to seat (maybe the tank molded a bit off), turn it until it feels in position, look, turn another 1/16 of a turn and it will flip into position.

you didn't deserve that, I seriously doubt there is a climber out there that hasn't had some sort of mishap with a saw that was sent up messed up in some way. Two of my favorites are... new chain put on backwards and the the nuts not tightened back after a chain adjustment was made causing the saw to quickly vibrate into pieces(my bad, being in a hurry).... but yes, the new caps can be a problem. Its a love hate thing.

The chain on backwards is a classic! Every once in a while I put one on backwards just to see if some of the guys are paying attention when they use the saw.

overfilling the oil on the 200 causes the seal to go bad on the cap. by filling the oil to just under the metal seat for the cap, you avoid overfilling and thus causing a bad seal and a leaky cap... don't be in such a hurry and it will work much more smoothely. they are prone to frustration clearly...
