Stihl MS290 problem

Guys,
my father-in-law handed me his piece of junk 290,(2 mos old) with a cracked oil case for me to repair. I replaced the whole case for him. Of course that required pulling the motor out of the saw and everything else under the sun. Saw ran perfect when I took it apart. When the replacement was finished the saw started perfect. Then it let out a wild backfire and quit running. I can pull and pull and pull and it just lets out a backfire every few pulls. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did ya reset the starting coil back in properly i ran into the same deal with my old 268xp.I reset it back and she ran fine.cCould also be your fuel is the thin diapham in the carb. soaked that will do it to. (Has an image of a bunch of saw guys standing around looking at the saw when these questions come up)

I know the flywheel is right where it should be because the flywheeel mounts on a the crank in a way that cant be changed. Meaning that on part of the crank there is a fixed pin and on the flywheel there is a matching groove. I bolted the coil back on but now I-m wondering if there's a gap there that can be adjusted. I am dumbfounded by the fact that it ran awesome for 10-15 seconds that quit with a loud pop.

If I had to guess I would say you spun the flywheel , pull your flywheel and chech it has not broken the keyway cause on 99.9% of motors than spin it will only backfire cause the flywheel is out of time . it happens alot more than people think

Thanks for everything guys. Broke the keyway on the flywheel. Thank goodness for Ebay. My suggestion was to throw the saw in the trash from day one and go get himself a used 036/360/361, but hey, to each his own.
