Stihl catalogue

Noticed in a later Stihl brochure that they post a historical time-line of chainsaw developments...cool, like the history of the Willy's Jeep. But they got the 020 wrong, about twenty years off. I ran 2 020's in 1982 and had a friend who bought one in the 70's.

What's that all about? Mark?

At the time, I also bought an 009, an 011, and a 012. They were useless except for limbing to feed the chipper anything but oak...but the 020's screamed. No breaks and solid metal cases, T handles. I know it was 1982 because I just moved to San Antonio and bought a tree service that came without saws and had to buy new. If I remember right...the metal 020's cost more than 600 each, way back then. I also bought the hedgetrimmer attachment that bolted right on, replacing the clutch cover.

Were they made in Germany only then?

They are all still made in germany, thats interesting that they have been out that long.

the hedge trimmer attachment are very old! one of the oldest dealers in the US is down the road from me, and he still has several of these for all different models.

Wonder why the timeline listed what it did for when they came out? Now I'm feeling real old. I saw an even older 020 at a garage sale, had the way-old logo and was square-bodied, owner said he got it in the late 60's before he went to 'Nam for Tet, and that was '68. He wouldn't sell it after I screwed-up and let him know how great a saw it was comparably.

Wonder if your dealer friend has a good warehouse of old goodies he'd be willing to part with? Trying to offload possessions but Stihl is still Stihl and better than greenbacks.
