Stihl 460

[ QUOTE ]
Get the factory dualport muffler and richen the carb 1/4 turn or so. Stihl factory muffler mod, and doesnt void warranty! 10-15% more power

Yup, that's what I did with my 660 and it works for sure.

I'm going to bump this thread.

I have both a 046 and a MS460. Awesome saws! I however damaged my fuel tank on the MS460. (Oops). So, it is out of commission for a little while.

My 046 has been sitting for a while because we had the spark plug blow out of the cylender head. For quite some time we couldn't get her to stay running for a while. We thought it was a fuel issue.

Until, one day POP! The plug blew out of the head! I over looked that detail and it's going to cost me.

Question:

The OEM assembly (and piston comes with) is $290. Will the NWP brand, from Baileys, do well? Are they cheaper in quality? If so, how bad can it be?

Is it worth it to buy the Big Bore Assembly? I hear the cover canpt go on right with the larger assembly.

Thanks.

I purchased the big bore assembly from baileys and the cover fit the same I think(i didnt put it in si who knows). Its been working good for a month,I dont really notice a power increase

This is a very good option.

It is easy, though I would recommend you pull the cylinder to keep the metal shavings out. I recently did one on a 362 and the saw works as new. You could probably do one on the 460 in less than an hour.

Most of the BB kits don't boost power. Usually the transfers are narrower than the OEM kits because bore size is increased without regards to what it does to the transfer size, and any gain bc of increased displacement is offset bc of poorer flow from the bottome of the motor.
