I have a friend who owns a Stihl 028 AV electronic quick stop saw. I have been trying to use it on the large limbs of a large red oak from his mom's neighbors lot, that fell and crushed the fence. It runs and idles fine and gulps fuel like a thirsty sailor, but after running fine for a few cuts will suddenly stop like someone hit the kill switch, and indeed there is then no spark. Do you think the electronic ignition is failing?

Thanks for any advice, Gordon

check the tank vent. it could be pluged up. the tank vent allows the tank to get rid of back pressure but also is there so when the fuel is sucked up, there is a vacuum created so the vent lets air flow into the tank. if its plugged the saw will run fine for a couple of cuts until there is enough of a vacuum created to not allow fuel flow. it is the little round gold thingy on the gas tank.

You say no spark once warmed up. Sounds like coil to me. Have had several do that too. Finally the coil will go out someday and not even start when cold.

If you have a extra coil to swap out try it and see.
