I have a top handle sthil 192T, from reading old post on them I now regret not going 200T. I am having problems with the muffler causing the plastic cover to burn away, is there any way to make any modifications to prevent further burn?

I used both my 192t and 200t today. The 192t was preferable for a lot of the cuts, as all were pruning cuts. I think its a decent saw. Mine cover has burned a little bit, but it is still very little exposed. IMO, no big deal.

southsoundtree, thanks for the help, it is a great saw for pruning, try not to worry too much with the burning..

I have both the 192t and the 200t as well. I used the 192t non stop for two years until I bought the 200t. I have not used a 192 in the tree for 3 years. The only time I've had any problem with the covers burning is when I use the saws on the ground. The consistent use just melts the plastic away, ive noticed this happens on both saws.

the 192 aint got nothing on the 330T.

I have been using a 192T for 3.5 years at work, no signs of it quitting. It has done anything from small pruning to large removals pullin a 16 inch bar on it. I had a husky top handle for about 3 months and it took a dump on me after one long day... brought it back to the dealer and traded for a stihl.

I have not tried the echo top handle. I feel any small engine is all luck of the draw.

I've used my 192T for awhile and it's been fine for pruning and many removals too. Just keep it clean and sharp. It's not a substitute for a 200T but its still a good saw. All I know of the Echos and Dolmars that we have had occasionally at work is they get beaten up pretty fast. I think our winters might be hard on some saws too.

frax, what kind of luck have you had with the dolmars? we use them exclusively at work here. on our trucks we carry the 3410 top handle, a 420, and a 6400. just havent seen anyone else around that have used a dolmar.

Since one is supposed to be running saws with both hands at all times, I like this very well modded 361 with oregon reduced weight 28" b & c. I would love to try a 200t, just can't bring myself to spend that much money for a saw that will be used for smallish cuts where I really don't need the power and where I use my little husky 338. Myself, I think I would buy one and still end up using my little 361, but maybe someday when I am a rich tree climber I will have to try one! 361

Should have said Dolmar. We have one - a top handle so prob the 3410 - and I've never had occasion to use it. It rarely gets used because it doesn't want to stay running. I really don't have enough experience with it to comment much more. It seems sturdy enough. Maybe it just doesn't like the wild fluctuations in temps we experience. Maybe it just needs a tune, but its pretty new.
The Echo just got plain beat to sh*t in no time. But we have people here who can beat the sh*t out of a 200T too. I don't know why.
Some of us carry our own personal saws, so we are the only one who uses it unless we lend it, which of course I will if I know the climber is careful.
I can say my 192T is completely reliable at minus 20 (like minus 4 in American. I think that's a big factor in our area.

I have a 192 and a 330T, the 192 will out-cut and outwork the 330 every single day.

I have a 200T on order :) should have had one by now, but damn, that little 192 is a kick saw :)

my point is the 192 is not any better. you will be through 5 192 before my 330T decides to quit.

I beg to differ there son.

Same here, I've had the same 192 for going on four years and still running strong. My go to saw for pruning work and even small removals.
