Steel toe boot essential?

Re: Steel toe boot essential?

ya that might be something i need to look into before i get my boots. If my company requires steel toe will make my descision a lot easier. I have been looking forward to getting nice comfy hiking boots though.

Re: Steel toe boot essential?

That's what everyone says. I think I'm the only one buying them.

Re: Steel toe boot essential?

i dont wear steel toe and i dont plan on it, heck, in the spring i wear pumas in the tree, maybe if i was still doing ground work i would consider it, if i come out of the tree and there is still a lot of dragging or wood to flip (with my crew this rarely happens) ill switch my shoes over to my removal boots which are baileys red dawg climbers, no steel in them either

Re: Steel toe boot essential?

The first thing that went though my mind was how often i have a chainsaw near my feet in the tree. I always two hand so having control is not the issue. When im on the ground i make it a point to clear my feet every time i cut. i had my pops cut his knee so im really careful with the saw and my body parts. the more people that post that don't wear them the more im leaning to not wearing them myself.

Does anyone have any footage of steel toes being pinched off? i have heard that if something is heavy enough it could pinch your toes off when it closes off. kind of like a bobcat or maybe a large truck. And what kind of weigh it takes to pinch a pair off would be interesting too.

Re: Steel toe boot essential?

This is not an expression of favour one direction or the other, simply a point of info.

Shearing toes off is feasible but unlikeley with steeltoes, what is more likely to happen is the steel will be crushed against your foot. And depending on the sole, quite awkward to pry from your toes needing medical attention. I was told composite protection 'pops' back and/or is easier to remove for medical attention.

This boot is fantastic for climbing in and CSA legal in CAN

Re: Steel toe boot essential?

I have thought about getting pinched by the steel toe before. I have got hit with some pretty heavy stuff. I think what it would take to pinch your toes would shatter them anyways, without the steal toe.

Re: Steel toe boot essential?

I tried climbing in lightweight hiking boots but I have to say I prefer climbing in my Wescos with their 16" rise. I like having leather covering and protecting my calves.

Re: Steel toe boot essential?

I forgot to say I wear shin/knee pads with my Commanders.

I can kneel down on anything.

Re: Steel toe boot essential?

I got some tecnica boots off of ebay for 9 bucks.
I used them for a take doum and liked them better then my red wings or crappy asolos.
