static footlocking line on every accent

that was the olnly time that has ever happened. If you wrap it up in the tree too much before coming out it can be hard to pull out.

As I work the tree I make sure that I don't leave too much friction at the natural redirects. This is easy enough and all part of rope management. It is amazing how much friction can be generated in a couple of redis.

So far...touch wood...I haven't had to reclimb to get a stuck rope.

For this same reason climbing SRT anchored at the base of the tree is much more efficient and friction free than DRT... For limb walks a hand ascender with pulley mounted above the Gri-Gri or Cinch works pro! You can spiderweb the hell out of your working end and still pull it out from the ground or use endless loops with micros planing your climb and retrieve them. Positioning is key, you can always blow two SRT lines in a tree one on each side and really work the system to its fullest as have a backup/ rescue line to triangulate from...

the only issue of the zigzagging came at an in oportune time during a masters challenge. Pulling the rope out at the end through the multiple redirects caused it to do a crazy flip around a branch and tie itself in a half hitch around the spliced end of the line. I never did get my line out of the tree.

I remember that...

here is a closer look, the foot opposit of the foot loop has a Patin

but with that system i thought your backup can't be below your ascender so that if the ascender fails it will push down your hitch.

I rarely footlock or SRT which is the system i have. Trees here in Green Bay WI barely reach over 60 feet besides our cottonwoods which then are usually removals then. But we can usually use a smaller ladder to get to the first branch and just climb it with the alternate lanyard technique very efficent.

Tr33Climber, you are absolutly right, if you are going with all safty factors then you would put a prusik above the hand ascender. If you think about that system thou if the hand ascender was to fail as soon as you sit the hitch will catch and I dont belive there would be enough pressure or force from the ascender to release the hitch. That and the distance from ascender to hitch is greater then the distance of hitch slacked and capture, making the capture first before contact of ascender.

You could of used a throwline to pull your spiderweb out, always expect the unexpected, murphy's law is always in effect, especially in a Masters Challenge. I am sure you have figured that one out now...

The school of hard knots sucks!

I love footlocking. It makes ascent so much easier. ....except when it is raining realy bad.

I always use a static line / acces line to footlock on, and then use another climbing line to climb on - in the tree. It doesn't take long to pull some rope out of a ropebag.

Then you also have an acces line ready, in case of you need your buddy to come up and rescue you.

As acces line I either use a 11mm velocity or a 10,5 static snakebite. The snakebite is so static and really cool for footlocking, but I find the velocity a little easier to grab and "find" with my feet.

when you guys foot lock snake bite do you dubble it up or just use one side? and can you use 10mm or 8mm beeline to foot lock up. witch mm wouid work best and be safest?
Currently I’m using snake bite with ascenders to access the tree tops, then I switch to my lava for drt.

It always sucks getting gear stuck up in the trees. I have had my ropes do loopedy loops also.

I footlock on a double rope with a klemheist prusik made of 10mm ( i think ) rope. I don't know about the beeline....
Lava is a nice climbingrope. I have one too - but I think I like the velocity a little bit better. It is easier to grib when it is wet. And it has been raining 24 days out of 30 in november in Denmark! Horribly!!!

What do you meen by getting your ropes stuck?
