In Florida, that kind of work is regulated by the Dept. of Agriculture. You might want to check out the Dept. Webpage for the State of Colorado, to see who handles pest control operator oversight, and go from there.
In Kentucky, you have two types of licensing: Operator and Applicator. Each entity (business or other group) has to have at least one person on staff with an Operator license in order to purchase pesticides. Each person that performs any pesticide application must have an Applicators license.
After trying to type out what it takes two times your best off researching what your state needs from you. I've worked in 3 states and each one has had different rules and requirements on what is needed and how much experience you need to obtain.
Generally you need a business license and then you need someone who has the highest level the state will certificate. Each state is different with how much experience and what they can do.
