SRT Training

Then I used to say in my presentations. "I went to tree climbing and I became a ddrt climber." But the truth is I came to tree climbing and remained an SRT climber.
Many climbers are completely unaware that they are already SRT climbers.

Do you mean in the sense that they're using one rope, one anchor? Could you elaborate?

I found that I had to work pretty hard not to tangent a hundred times during my presentation. Stay focused, make your points, and give as much info as possible. You can never get it all, but hopefully you can give a baseline knowledge to give them a leg up to finding the benefits for them individually. And make sure to encourage and leave room for questions.

I also like to find a few different ways to explain things, sometimes people just need things said in a different way.

True that, Mac. You'll figure out the semantics by knowing a bit about each guy you're working with and what their interests are outside of climbing and tree work. Throw in a thing or two that can help each individual relate. Also, try to model a situation you'd encounter in the crown, but down on the ground and close to everyone so they can all get their hands on it. That's MUCH more efficient than having each person tie in and work up to/through a scenario. The location you choose to do this should hopefully allow such scenarios to set up at ground level. Having awesome trees is cool, but the learning has to first be done down at face level with everyone able to clearly see. Take it all to the crown later.
