SRT in work climb

Seeing Kevin work both the work climb tree and the Masters with his Fate Revolver was truly one of the absolute most impressive things I have ever seen. I have long been of the opinion that SRT would never displace Doubled Rope in the actual working of the tree because I have never seen a truly efficient and safe set up to do it. Even the Uni, while impressive, had some serious drawbacks as it related to my climbing style in a work environment. The F8 revolver works virtually identically as the doubled rope system you are currently using and allows you to work SRT with a hitch, safely and efficiently. Truly innovative stuff.

Congrats to Kevin for not just thinking outside the box, but just plain destroying the dang thing !!!!! I can't wait to take this system for a ride...

Very innovative stuff indeed!

I would like to try it out soon, too. I need a good teacher watching over me though.

Thanks Kevin for coming down to Charlotte and allowing us to showcase your SRT skillz!

Whoooo Hoooo!

Now there are two documented uses of SRT in competition! The foundation of knowledge and experience is beginning to solidify. I'm so happy that there are innovative thinkers who are able to develop and test new concepts.

Hat's off to MT for being open-minded and giving innovation a time in the spotlight.

From what you said, you had a competitive climb too! Good for you!

Oh and tophopper, I came out of the masters challenge 7 minutes faster than the next guy using the fate revolver, my rope just decided it would not follow me down. I still think you owe me at least a beer or two.

I'm not sure i understand? You finished 7 min ahead of all of the other competitors? 7 min is a big deal and there were some great climbers there.

Also how did you rope not follow you down? I'm not following that?

Congrats regardless. Now i just need a revolver. Anyone want to send me one?

He was referring to the masters climb. Time has no points linked to it. Just a timeout point. The Masters tree was very stubborn. Many of the competetors had difficulty with gear removal. When Kevin was pulling his rope out, the tree grabbed it

and tied a knot on a limb showing us how alive the tree really is.

that tree is laughing its roots off at all of us. It is the second year in a row that it played me. Great tree, great people and I only wish I got to see the other climbs. Eazy P, was there any kind of video taken this year?

It is amazing how that tree looks so innocent, but yet it is capable of such mischief.

I don't know if there was anyone recording the masters this year. I think in another thread I vowed that next year we will try to get a few cameras going both days, and see what kind of footage we get.

Did you finally get your rope out of the tree, or did Hattier have to rescue it for you? I missed the ending of your climb (busy with getting the prizes ready).

Aww. That really stinks!!! I was trying to wrap my head around how it got stuck just haven't seen this knot your talking about happen before when removing a line. Only to the tail of my line.

And time might not count towards points in the Masters but its really impressive and says something about his system and the efficiency of it, if he was able to finish that much quicker than some other great climbers. Think about if i could be 7 min faster on every half hour climb i did at work. The time i would save.

Hope someone got some video really interested in seeing all or any of the climbs.

What I should have done was tie my throwline to the end so it would not whip around. I pulled up the spliced end, which was a mistake because the spliced locked it on the branch. It was also going through two or three redirects so I did not have much pull on it. Hattier rescued it.

Michigan still represented with Lucas Drews win.

for me it more than Makes up for the Michigan State loss (debacle)to North Carolina in Detroit on Monday.

After seeing the set up I dont see why ITCC would discourage it. It is an efficent and safe setup with back ups incorporated.

I will be going to ITCC as the Michigan chapter representative. We had our comp in September. I had not yet stumbled across the fate revolver at that time.

Oh thats great. Good luck!!! Do you use the locking revolver or gate in competition and daily use?

I have a ton of questions for ya about this.

Did Kevin work the tree on the way up or did he go to top and work it on the way down?Just real curious seems easier to work it on the way down with this system.I was messing aroung with it today and seemed a little difficult to advance the figure 8?I wish I could see some good video of it being used.
