Spring for latch on hook.

We keep having problems with the spring that closes the latch on the hook. Problem is: It keeps breaking. What are others using for this spring?

What type of hook do you have and when is it breaking? Is something pushing the latch sideways?

I go through a latch spring about every 4 to 6 months, thats with an average crane use of maybe 20 to 30 hours per week. Usually one leg of the spring will break first, giving some warning. I always carry a spare, in addition to a flagged pin. Check out www.awdirect.com under "latch kits", in stock from 2 to 7 ton hooks.

Nothing. We just lock the gate shut with cotter pins. Much safer!

Do remove and replace the cotter pin every time you put something on the hook?

We put the slings on on the ground, and take them off when the job is done. We use shackles so we dont have to open and close the hook all the time. Much faster this way IMO.

Crikey, I would hate having to do it that way!

I do it likeboston bull alot now to. It is just as quick and thw ball or in my case the boomtip keeps clear of debris. It is kind of like tieing a knot repetetively. It becomes quick and easy after a while.
