While blocking down wood ,do you guys prefer double braid rope or hollow braid? I really prefer double braid. Although hollow braid is stronger I find it difficult to tie dress and set because it picks and I also find it hard to untie.

Usually, I'm a Dbl Braid guy. The flattening of the hollow stuff makes it harder to untie because it needs to squeeze harder tp hold. It has no roundness when loaded. Also, the Dbl Braids have a poly sheath that protects it from heat damage.

Mark, in most cases, it's not safe to say that the poly sheath of the Dbl Braid slings protects them from heat damage.

The sheath does protect the core. But if it is a polyester/polyester double braid, half the strength is in the cover and half is in the core. If you do heat-damage the cover, you may be reducing the strength of the sling by as much as 50%!

If you are using a double-braid with high-modulus core, then most (almost all) of the strength is the core. In this case, heat damage (or any damage) to the cover is not as much to worry about as in the poly/poly dbl braid.

Yeah, I agree with that Nick. I guess what I was saying more specifically is that the cover of a dbl braid is more tolerant in its' construction. In the hollow braids, the carriers seam to burn more easily, especially the two and three end carriers.
