PS its not fair to the others on the buzz so if you want to continue this thread im going to move to the rant and rave.

Another thing that you need to consider with the spider lift is service costs. When you need someone to come out and look at the thing it costs an arm and a leg. We have a leo 23gt from extreme access solutions, which means all the techs come out of Boston. We're in CT and that's still a haul. Before labor and parts you have to pay just to get the guys to your shop. $$$. It is however, definately a nice piece of equipment to have in some situations. But it is the only piece of equipment my boss is not sure he would purchase again if he had it to do over. Why not buy a new 75' bucket truck with an elevator? They are awesome.

Way to get everyone back on track Joshua Grover! And welcome to the Buzz!

Some day, I'd personally like to purchase both a crane and some sort of tracked lift. For the sake of favoring a spider lift, I'd imagine using one nearly every day, if I had one. Josh, do you guys use yours every day? (I know Jim Steele used his Teupen every day

I'd also like to save the wear and tear on my body.

Using a spider/tracked lift, which can telescopically maneuver around, seems to be the trade off for the lack of speed, when we compare them to a bucket. Josh, would you agree?

We have a pretty small operation. That is it's just the owner and me, so the tuepen does not go out everyday. The spider lift is definitely a trade off. You will certainly not have to climb as much, though you can't get the lift to everything. It allows you to take on otherwise near impossible trees. It is way!! slower than a bucket truck, though in a lot of instances quicker than climbing. It is also not as rugged as a bucket, not being designed specifically for tree work. It will not take near the same abuse. You do not want to rope a piece into the basket or boom. I already mentioned service costs. Also there is the trust factor. It is super wiggly at 75'. My boss is still uncomfortable up in the thing. I'm over it at this point. I suppose that's just personal. Anyway, it is super handy, and often saves the day, but its not a clear cut 100% winner. Hope that helps, or at least muddies the water.
