Socks, Sweat and Stank!

How do you deal? This isn't intended to be a personal hygiene thread but I gotta change something!

I sweat like a hore in church if its over 85f, but my feet sweat constantly no matter how hot or cold. GTX boots keep the wet out but also keep the sweat in for me. Athletes foot becomes a huge problem, ruins boots, and makes those around me make poopy faces when the boots come off. Tea Tree oil is the only thing that I have found to band-aid the funk, but I want to solve the problem at the source.

So I guess it would be socks. What do you doods use? I need a better hiking/wicking sock, at least 7 pair. But WTF, you could drop a small fortune in tek-socks at the average 25$ a pair. What is a dude to do? Help me stop grossing people out fellas.

Smelly feet are a sign of bad INTERNAL hygiene.. Do a fast and cleanse with colonic irrigation under the care of a holistic health professional.. you can start by using pro-biotics and psyllium husks for a few months building up to the fast.. lay off the sugar and pork.. Eat cruciferous veggies, such as caggabe, caulifower, broccoli etc...

And use multiple pairs of boots, so you don;t wear the same pair every day.. let em dry out

I mostly agree, the stank is a symptom, try to get to the root of it. Other health issues could be the cause. It could be as basic as a fungus on your feet but there is a reason why your body can't beat it.

Time to dig deep.

My favorite socks are adidas climacool's for warm weather. I sweat a ton over 75 deg. I agree with the others that the stank is related to other body issues. Try checking your pH. I'm working on getting mine down now because my sweat smells like vinegar.

My saliva pH is great but my urine not so much. Diet changes and liquid chlorophyll have me headed in the right direction. It's worth looking into.

Just piss on it!
Seriously your urine or even the one you love.
Hugely antiseptic and was a common practice in the field of war when no antiseptic was available.

I eat lotsa pork, ham sausage etc I do not sthink it has any thing to do with it.

All the money in the world to engineer the perfect fibre and mother natures own is staring us in the face.

They did the same thing with Tennis string and there is still no better than cow gut.

That is what really stinks!

Cheap cotton double layer change per need let boots dry all good

Same on top, cotton shirts and bandanas rinse and hang dry

Soaking feet in 10% clorox helps kill fungi

I'm with Daniel and Jomoco on this one. Internal cleanse and keep the socks changed. I do the wild rose cleanse twice a year. You still get to eat but it's all very basic foods.

You wouldnt have to change with wool my man. cotton kills.

DanDel, the thread as I understood it was about sweating while doing tree work in the city, not hiking in the frozen wilderness. I used to ski and hike and run distance in WI etc, 50-milers to 87 miles at a stretch. Never wore cotton socks for that type of activity; I agree that would have been crazy, and in extreme cases potentially fatal.

Hypothermia was an issue doing tree work for hours in subzero conditions, but that's an exception in our region. When it's possible to change clothes during the day, cotton remains an effective material to manage sweat and odor. The longer that socks stay on, the more stink they accumulate and emanate.

There are a whole lot of personal variables in this topic.

Ive worn Smart wool in working wild fires in Arizona in temperatures past 100 and also backpacking in the tropics. Wool works both ways. Once you go smart wool you never go back.

You can find some great deals on smartwool from sierra trading post if you are willing to wait for the right offer. Just bought like eight pair at six and a half bucks each, last like ten times longer than cotton as well.
