Lol....sorry it just makes me mad, because its hard enough for the guys that have been around here for 30 years to find work. I am not going to call I know they need to work too. At least wish they would be safer.
 
So these guys roll up and despite 30 yrs in the business or maybe because of it they whip out the saws and "git r done" without a single bit of PPE unless you would call a ballcap skin protection....

Sorry to be such a cynic.....

Well here is how it went down. The man that had no gear was walking out, or should I say expiring out on the limb. I was just sick of it! I went to the truck and got all my gear and went back. When I got down there I told the boss to get the guy down before something bad happened. Put on my gear and started up to tie off and go ahead and help take the good sized sicamore down. He asked what I was going to do, and how much to do it. We agreed on a price and I took it down. And it turns out he was insurured. I felt good helping them out and he has work for me too. Good day any day.
 
I don't think your comment was that egregious. After all, they were Mexicans, right? Latino immigrants certainly have not cornered the market on 'have chainsaw = tree guy' thing, that's alive and well across all of this country and probably beyond. It's up to the consumer to hire a pro... If they want a hack, well, they come in all colors.

I was just messing around with the Spanish comment (I said "Then these white guys show up next to our job..."), and I think you did the right thing by helping. Another good life experience under your belt.

Let me paint a picture......You are in Mexico, surrounded by Mexicans, for all intents an purposes you are the only white guy around.

You stick out a bit. Why? Because it is OBVIOUS that you are NOT from around there.

So as the locals notice you, one mentions to the other that you are American. (now I understand that you could be German, British.... etc.... but again, we are dealing with the PROBABILITY that you are not from around there. so lets not go down that rabbit trail)

Its obvious that you are not Mexican. So whether he called you British, German, etc.... Is that really RACIST?

Does that REALLY deserve us to get into such a cowardice stance and tread so lightly as to not be able to speak the obvious?

If the guys were Mexican, What is wrong with saying it?

That's kind of what I was saying without all the extra stuff. Keep in mind that 'Mexican' is used with negative connotation frequently in this country. I am certainly not saying that's what was said or what was read, but it's true.

The whole thing was he said he was an arborist and I obviously know he was not. It did not matter about them being Mexican. I think no matter what kind of person you are you have to live somehow. Made me sick to think that "guy" could fall and get hurt or even die, and I'm just sitting there with the gear and know how.....I just didn't care I had to get him down and safe weather I got paid or not....I did get paid and thanked many times though and that was just a great topper!
 
My point was not that using 'Mexican' is racist, it just doesn't have a bearing on the story. If so, leave it out. DATM figured it out as I can tell from his replies. TomTTM has it right...no one group of people have the jackleg market cornered.

You are a stand-up man! Going in to rescue the knucklehead is a huge pay it forward for you. All of us have, or should have, done the same many times over the years.
