sithl 192T with .50 bar?

I tried it when the guy at the saw shop suggested I take it for a spin. I never had issues with bending .043 chains, but I'm pretty religious on keeping proper tension and clean/square bar.

I wouldn't call anyone an idiot for trying to run .050 on a 192, I also wouldn't necessarily opt for .050 the next time I have to replace a bar on that saw. I'm sure there's a situation that calls for it, like availability or having bulk .050 already.

I agree with this even though I would say it's not a good idea. Very sensible post.....

I have been happy with the .043 not experiencing any of this bending. I have had the chain ride off a little which only happened once and only takes a quick flick with a scrench to line it back up. I had the same question at the original time I bought the saw and was told I can do .050, but after running it I prefer the smaller kerf. I am not a saw manufacturer I will leave things the way they are, Sthil is good..

if you havent bent a few chains in you career you not climbing everyone has had a saw stuck in an undercut on a limb then tried pulling the saw out an your chain doesnt sit in you bar right how can anyone get info with a bunch of people who are afraid to hurt their own ego its not a bad thing to admit your faults it helps us all

I get the bar pinched frequently, there's no shame in that.
I have never had nor heard of a chain getting bent though. I don't think it's an ego thing. just varied experience.

Same for me

But remember fellas ( definitely not pointing fingers just discussing ) its what you do after the saw gets pinched thats the important thing, depending on the severity, size of the saw and wood etc...DON"T yank at the saw to try and release it that's how the chain would get bent...call for another saw if the wood is big ( start over a new cut beyond/above the pinched saw ) or in most cases use the hand saw to release the pinched saw as with smaller wood ( same method )...

Like I always say to new hires, i don't give a darn if you pinch your saw, its gonna happen more often than you think, JUST DON'T PULL, PRY, LEAN, OR JERK ON IT... GET ANOTHER SAW!!! there is no point to trying to pull a saw out of a pinch, it destorys bars, chains, sprockets, sprocket bearings, rubber mounts, and who knows what else.

I'm glad I decided to rear this thread! In all my time working with saws, noone has ever emphasized not trying to pull the saw out of the pinch. I've never really given much thought to it either. I'll be adding this to my chainsaw training program. Thanks BUZZERS!

Never bent a chain? Cmon people. I know what you're getting at. I suppose you think you can't bend a chain because of the hinged links? Try bending your elbow backwards or off to the side. It's hinged. Anybody that knows Jiu jitsu will tell you joints can and do go the wrong way. Hang on a door and you can break it off the hinges.

OK, enough of my rant. I'll bet all of you have bent a chain and just didn't know it. They usually bend from side to side and don't ride the bar groove right afterwards. Sometimes a link will sit up high and you basically have to hammer it down into the bar groove. Even if you get it to ride the groove right you're going to wear that bar out faster. Just get a new chain. Try taking an old chain and bend it side to side. It'll happen pretty easily. Very easy to do if your saw is bound up in a cut.

One other thing that drives me nuts is when someone has a stuck saw and they keep gunning the trigger. :) Stop doing what you're doing.
