getting ready to order a silky handsaw and pole saw blade.

Any advise on what handsaw/scabbard, and pole saw blade to buy?

Can the pole saw blades be easily modified to fit on a different brand head like a jameson?

I have always used fanno saws, but the charlie horses in my forearms at the end of the day are getting old. Time for a faster cutting tool.

General purpose pruning - Zubat if you like curved blades, Natanako if you like straight.

Takedowns - I like the Sugoi but it's big. Lately I just use the Zubat (or Samurai) since it fits the Sawpod nicely. I'm through carrying a handsaw dangling from my harness.

I can't say much about the polesaw blades except the Hayuchi blade is big and beefy enough to cut 6" wood and the Longboy blade is delicate but precise.

Thanks, I ordered the zubat.

as for the pole saw, i have so many fiberglass poles, last thing I need is the whole set up.

What are the best pole saw blades other than silky? I can't see buying an entire unit, or is it really worth it?

I'm using ARS blades right now but I could take'em or leave'em... kinda delicate. I haven't run across a polesaw blade that really stands out except for the Hayuchi.

zubat 330 is so well rounded, a great saw. even my old spent blades are terribly sharp, ready for trail work.

but for something bigger on occasional bigger branches the sugoi seems a good idea.

anyone have any thoughts on the 420 sugoi vs. the 360 sugoi? I am not sure that the end hook/slicer thingie on the 360 is something i would use much. In fact, it seems like it would get in the way some times. but dang, is that 420 going to be too long? thoughts?

Zubat Zubat Zubat Zubat. Ms192T for bigger wood.

I like the Jameson HD head with a Fanno Bull blade. Both can be purchased from Sherrill. The blades extra thick, and really stands up. Head number is-28718, fits Jameson poles. Saw blade number is-15330, 14 inch double thick.
You could start there since the investment isn't a lot, then move up if that combination does'nt work for you.
Just my thoughts.

I've used the hook on the 360 to put a hole through the side of my leather boots. Terribly sharp, it is.

I use both a sugoi 360 and a zubat duck taped to the leg holster of the sugoi. I use both of them plenty pruning.

I run a 360 Sugoi in the sawpod Love it works great thought i wanted the 420 mm version but i'm glad I got the 360 its plenty big and the little cutter on the hook is nice for small sucker sprouts lay it next to it and just touch it they're gone great combo >>>>>>>>>>>>>>note the sugoi cuts FAST so any branches with any weight that will rip , need under cut because it will cut a 3 inch limb and break on 3-4 pulls<<<<<<<<<<<<

Gomtaro 300mm straight 7 or 11 teeth per inch talk about cutting nickles. fruit trees fagetaboutit! I have one of each. small but effective.

I have the zubat right now...it works well idk if I am going to shell out all the money to get a replacement blade. May look into something else.

Yes, i second the gomtaro 11 inch - i have one of those that i use a lot. nice small tip makes it great for getting into tight branch unions. Fine teeth make starting the kerf really smooth. they don't cut quite as fast so it is easier to slow up at the end of a cut to keep the pull-through from nicking the branch behind it. It's a slower cut, but on smaller diameter stuff, i find that i don't want to go through it too fast anyhow.
fruit trees, ornamental. great. I use it predominantly when i am out in the branch tips of larger trees.
the smaller teeth make for a really smooth cut surface, and i always wonder if that actually makes it harder for decay organisms to get a foothold on a fresh cut.
a curved fine tooth saw with a thin tip would be groovy.
