Should have been butt tied...

Agreed X teamwork is key, and the groundperson needs to hear what I am directing him to do. I am always explaining what the piece will do and what they NEED to do to get it to the ground safely. I am always giving instructions as i am their only teacher and in four years all has run smoothly with little or no hiccups and quite fortunately I HAVE never looked like the dude in the video even from the get go. As I always say some folks are just gifted at certain jobs and even though I found tree work later than most it fits me quite well ( not being arrogant just truthful ). I am thankful each day that I head to work in a job that keeps me excited and satisfied. Want more action though Canada here I come, well maybe still got to get my head around being back in the cold after all these years. Aggh.

another personal rule, when I do need the groundie to run a piece for my safety, is to shut all saws, chippers, blowers etc off, and make sure the ground man repeats back to me the instructions.. Otherwise a hand signal from the climber and a thumbs up or head nod, in response, from the groundie and we're good to go..

This Call and Respond type of system is a very good thing which I suspect gets overlooked by people frequently.

A person can hear 95% of the words spoken and miss 100% of the message. The Response/ reiteration of what is to be done is easy enough and ensures that everyone is on the same page for a critical task.

What happened no more teaching, well I am disappointed as I had a lovely apple ready for my favorite teacher. Awe well guess I will have to eat it. Schools out.

Or as the rigging line tensioned it had to ride over a stub. I wonder if the notch could be another factor in the climber getting the head shot. Too narrow or a not clean apex will propel the log forward, call it premature ejaculation perhaps. The ground worker's grip on the rope or unexpected friction, notch, rigging angles and climber position all added up. I suspect they knew all that and the real cause was rushing the work at the wrong stage of the operation.

Jamin the steam has finally run out it seems, lots of money added in $.02 form. The last nail has just been driven in the coffin. After 7 pages the generals have finally given up the battle so on to the next. Hope the action remains , love the dueling. Ricky got some dudes firing hard in blockbuster vid should get lively later. Passion abounds.

This is so true.

Nice avatar bstewart. And I will second that jomoco. I am learning from all three thanks to the internet ( tree buzz etc ) because down here I am in all honesty, in relative isolation. ( tree work wise ).
