Shortening Double Braid Eye2Eye

I have an eye in a 3/4's rope. I want to make a an eye and eye sling out of it.

a 3/4's fid is 15.75" So with 5 fids between the slipknot and Mark D (the extraction for core bury) and then a long fid (10.5") between D and B ( the second mark for the eye) that gives me a minimum distance of 89.25" between eyes (almost 7.5') I would like to get it closer to 5' or 6'.

Is it as simple making marks B and A using only a 4 fid length span between D and the slip knot, then leaving an extra fid length of cover past A??

What methods can I use for making it shorter, I know its possible as I have seen it in finished state.

Don't lock stitch the first eye so you can pull more of the core for your second splice. You can milk it all back and lock stitch them after you are done.

Is that what you were asking?

In this situation don't adhere to that "5 fids to the slip knot business. In this situation the first eye is your anchor for running it home and I'll whip the first eye super tight on the throat to lock the cover and core together. Then at the very end when you're running the second splice home, take the temporary whipping off and as you're running home the second splice, you're actually running home BOTH splices and balancing the cover/core on the entire piece.

Ya dig?

x2 on what Nick said. I have found 6' is a fairly easy e&e to make. Gets to be a little of a handful when burying the cover but not a big deal. I found a small or medium plastic clamp saves a bit of trouble. Or a safety pin. Good luck

They work great. What I use is in the upper left, bought 10 or so of different sizes at a large box store for 5 of 6 bucks. The other clamp I think would work a little better. But you cant beat the price.
I also use the smaller ones to hold the cover back while splicing hitch (HRC/Beeline) cords.
