SHERRILL kinda sucks .......

Where do you guys think that information comes from? It comes from those who get out and participate in the industry.

I'll say it again...

If you're learning THAT much from a catalog, you're not properly trained.

If you can't understand the meaning of that post, you're not properly versed in English, either.

I've always had good luck with sherrill. I usually recieve my order within 1-2 days, being in TN. I have also been impressed that the customer service actually know the gear, not very many companies in other industries are nearly as helpful. Also, I have been to several free continuing education courses funded by sherrill. Just my $.02. I like wespur as well, free shipping is nice, takes over three weeks to send east though and I get anxious to play with my new purchase.

Erik, I think Dan's pretty much out there in the industry as anyone can be. I've definitely learned some good stuff from those catalogs... I still have to go grab one when I want to tie a Distel because I can't seem to make that one stick in my brain anymore.

One of the very best things I learned from a Sherril's catalog was tying 'The Better Bow'. It's a superior way to tie your shoes.

Being properly trained to do the job is not necessarily the same thing as being trained in every piece of gear Sherrill offers. There's some good info there and I'm not ashamed to say I've learned from their catalog. I generally don't put it into practice until I can get some hands-on with someone who really knows the gear (though I've picked up a knot here and a hitch there from Sherrill), but there's nothing wrong with learning from any source that works for you.

Me too! It really is a "better bow". I've also passed that one on to a few people and found some variations in the process.

Variations? Do tell. I could even see that as a new thread.

Too bad, it was in the Baileys cat a long time before.

No, I don't think I need any help with my english, I understood your post perfectly. I just think your wrong. I'm just not so full of myself to think that I can't gain insight from a catalog, or to think that people who do were not "properly trained". No, I understood the post but was confused by the pompous attitude taken in it.

Stop using it because some washed up a-hole pointed out that it was in another catalogue?

Implausible.

All these guys giveback to the industry and all are more than willing to share their knowledge. All have had something to do with the Sherrill catalog.
I've left a million people off this list, and you guys know who they are.

MACROCARPA:
The Customer Service people know the gear because they use it. They are all trained, some are even arborist. Thanks for
the atta boy on Sherrill funding programs.

GRAIS:
If your going to bad mouth someone.... at least get the name right. It's TOBE SHERRILL and the next time you come out of the woods and actually come to an event, look around and see who's paying the freight. I'm just sayin.. when is the last time YOUR favorite vendor sponsored something.

Do I sound biased? You bet I am. Tobe is one of the most standup guys I know. I've killed threads before, maybe this will do the trick.

Yep, I'm pretty sure Sherrill's encourages it's employees to get certified.

Russ,

Since Vermeer is junk anyways, they might as well do something useful.

You guys are confusing picking tidbits up in a catalog (which is cool), with the post my original comment was addressed to which came off, to me, like he was using the catalog as some sort of textbook, which it isn't.

If I sound pompous, well... too bad. Sorry to offend those with thin skin.

It's wonderful that Sherrill supports the industry through sponsorship; and many others, as well. That doesn't mean their customer service doesn't (or didn't) suck. Tobe and I have in fact discussed this, and I'm confident that should I choose to order from them again, I wouldn't suffer the same experience.

Oh, and Russ? I've met some of the people on your list. (By the way... spelled Nick's last name wrong.)

SOme of you guys sound like valley girls judging what the unpopular girls are wearing!!get over yourselves!!
This is such a high ego industry.....can you smell the testosterone? its really nauseating.
Just for the record and for what its worth I think any person who makes ANY POST should completely fill out their profile!!! Real men do not hide behind a pseudonym........look it up!
Also , anyone ,anyone in biz could improve their customer service. No one is perfect!

If you're referring to moi, my profile is filled out quite well enough to dispel any notions of "hiding".

or...

Darn. I thought I was infamous.
