SHERRILL kinda sucks .......

Only problem(s) I have had with Sherrill is the Vermeer end of things... but that's a problem I have with the staff at Vermeer. The other problem is this new billing system they are using at Sherrill. The last time I placed an order there were some problems with payment, and it took a while to sort out. In the end it was alright though.

the only problem i have with sherrill is. there isint one in the new orleans metro area over 1 million people. i work for the biggest privately owned company in that area. and they refuse to order anything from any other company. i live in a city with hundreds of tree companys. and the closest vermeer/sherrill is in denham springs 60 miles away so when i need a biner or a new bridge extension i have to wait for my field supervisor to order it, and it to get delivered, instead of me buying it locally from a vermeer shop

I was thinking the same thing. Good service or bad, we as climbers owe alot to Sherrill for all the new tools and thus new techniques that make our work easier and safer. I personally don't order often cuz I'm generally broke but when I do it's no more hassle than dealing with any other mail order outfit. Thanks Tobe and crew.

I got frustrated after many years doing biz with them. Last week, I went to get a pair of Bashlin climbers with the pole gaffs and they said I have to get them with the longer tree gaffs and get the pole gaffs seperate or it will be a special order. I went elsewhere and will be hesitant to use Sherrill again.

I think it really comes down to who is running the show at the local Vermeer dealership. I'm really impressed with the guys down in Burnsville. The customer service is great in the shop as well as on the floor. Russ will go out of his way to get you what you need and they seem to have a pretty good inventory of gear.

I agree Jim, Russ is an excellent rep! But I guess we are kinda spoiled having Sherrill and Fresco (Rob is a great guy to deal with as well) to choose from.

I've ordered alot from the catalog over the years and never had a problem up until this year. Both of my orders this spring were shipped incomplete. 2 sets of clevis were left out in my first order, I received them a month and a 1/2 later. In the second order I made the mistake of ordering a special order rope which also took about a month and 1/2 to get to me.

I order from many different arborist supply stores, but have always had good service from Tobe and everyone over at Sherrill.

Tobe's a hell of a good business man in my book.

I love Serrill's catalogue and the amount of stuff they carry. I have a problem with the Canadian prices we have to pay. I am interested in the ergovation saddle and their Canadain price is $813.00 plus 13% sales tax. Another supplier can get it for $689.00 plus tax. Why do they have to rape us so much at Sherrill?

I have had one problem with an order and posted it in the rant and rave section and Tobe responded and I respect that. I deal with a lot of other suppliers but that was one bump I had from Sherill. Then again it was a specialized item that wasn't carried in the catalog yet so I can see that being a problem too but other than that there's been nothing but good from them.

I have never had any problems with Sherrill(except the occasional clueless vermeer salesperon in the stores) have spent alot with Sherrill and they are the top of the list for me! Not to mention the innovative products that they always seem to be involved with bringing to us.

Sounds like a business opportunity over there.

We always wondered why there wasn't a tree care supply shop in our town (other than Vermeer). Then we opened one up and quickly figured it out. There's a lot of ways to make your fortune in this world... Selling arborist supplies is not one of them. It is a lot of fun, though.

Major props to the guys who have been able to make it happen.

My experience has been negative. I ordered a 10mm bee line, the core came out right away. All I wanted was a new one. They wanted ME to pay to ship their defective part back. So I did in good faith. Instead of a replacement, I received a refund for the bee line. So now I have to RE ORDER the line, and guess who has to pay shipping a THRID time? Thats right I do if I want it. That would be a good $30 in UPS shipping charges a defective $34 item. Too many other places offer the same things, maybe another company will treat their customers better.

SteveGrind,
Sounds like you are describing their 30” two eye split tail.
Can you explain a bit more what happened.
How far did the core pull out?
I have one a few months old, no problems yet.
I have never had a problem with Sherill that couldn’t be resolved with a phone call.

I already posted about a big balls-up from Sherill on the TreeHouse, so I won't get into the details again here. (It was about 5 years ago.)

Tobe did respond to the thread, FWIW, but one sticking point that has been voiced both there and here is that he seems to only post in defense of his company's "honor".

It would be great if he could chime in more regularly on other topics; surely he has lots to contribute, and being more active on the boards would leave customers who do have issues feeling they have more access to a resolution from the HNIC.

Almost every TB sponsor reads the forum. When I've talked to them about posting they talk about an awkwardness that they feel about participating. That's surely understandable. Too often forum readers respond to posts by sponsors, not just on TB either, in a rather negative way. The readers feel like the sponsors are over promoting.
