Sherrill Backbone

faster ? how ? stronger ? why ? cooler looking ? not ! the bone is only 96 bucks . think i never lowered off a ladder snap ? throw some numbers up with your post . Price was wrong , step up with some numbers , that bone is strong .

correction, its exactly the same price, 100 bucks. I thought the backbone was 110, either way I like the snap better because its WLL is 7700, all you have to do is clip the sling into the snap, and you're done, instead of threading a loop through and around the horn. I got it from Afisco (sp?), not whatever that link was but I wanted to find something with a picture instead of just a link to a part number. I realize there is a lot of preference in climbing/ rigging, and this is just what I like to use over the other options out there, thats all.

from the pictures i cant see that the i could do anything with the bone i couldnt do with my figure 8 (rescue 8 really)and it was about 15 bucks

Really ? carabiners , figure 8's ? cmon ? seriously ? really ? Serious? that needs a answer ? a rescue 8 compared to a new rigging tool? really ? There is a new batch of tree people who just plain suck ! climb cute ,and get nothing done . Yeah ! The backbone is strong > made for rigging , a figure 8 is not made for rigging limbs . suck it ! oh no he didn't ! yes he did . shame they made that marriage legal! 8 vs, backbone = mismatch !

Definitely trying to see pics of those figure 8 tricks / or backbone app. pics. I can name a lot of things I would rather drop a c note on. feel like some old farts would have stumbled across an idea like this in the past if it were going to make such a difference.
Any of you seasoned climbers ever come up with some variation of this idea before?

Not that I'd call him an "old fart", but the BackBone was brought to us by Scott Prophett. He had been using his own version for a while and we worked together to further develop the idea, and come up with the final sleek design.

I saw them using one at TCIA up in Baltimore and I thought that it was pretty cool. Seems like a useful piece of gear to keep around. I haven't gotten around to ordering one but it will be on my list this year. I figure if it saves me 10-15 min on a job and I can use it once or twice a week, it will pay for itself in about a month.

If anyone is going to the MAA winter seminar tomorrow in Ellicott City, I will have one there to talk about/play with.

Tony

I've used a variation of this before in pine removals, it works really slick for rigging down smaller branches. Not sure I would use anything but a solid rigging line and a well dressed knot and marl for big wood though...

I'm definitely getting one. Been doing removals on a property the last several days where lots of balancing of bigger wood has been required. Most of the time a spider leg has been over kill and I found myself wishing for the incredibly simple balance setup I can see doing with the backbone.

I want one in titanium, I think this would make all the difference in the weight issue,(It tends to make 9/16 and 5/8 run back to Drop Zone if not tended by a directional slip knot on back side of block.) This issue dissapears with 3/4 line and or when there is alot of line in the system. I do believe it is a stronger setup when balancing with a 30ft scrap of stable braid, vs. the alternative (hollow braid sewn loop prussiked on said scrap of rope with a steel biner connecting this setup to the load line.) Alas, in the quest for "knotless rigging", I'm afraid the knots are winning.....

Running bowline is light!

Double wrap it for grip or tripple wrap for slippery suckers i.e lemon scented gums.

No need to over complicate things

Took down alot of trees with the bone (20), your not breaking it . I use amsteel slings and do what I do , it's not coming undone and you ( or most people ) won't break it . I;ll wait and put pictures up , but this tool is solid strong . 31 yrs doing tree work , great tool . A good rigger will trust it and know how to use it , I tried to break it , within reason , no way . The ease of undoing the load for the ground person , stop ! e as in easy ! give credit where credit is due . figure 8 ? really? I'M putting a slide show up of my use of the bone , I don't sell it , but if I trash a product I have to give creds also to the one that works . .

how much money you got Chopper ? think you can tie twelve knots faster than me ? put up or shut up . don't step up unless you got step . Set the line , Riggsy vs. Chopper . Run your mouth ( keyboard) what u got ? You can't hang .

Simon says Riggsy got you on this one , your home (m) alone ! good luck , practice with your sneakers first , bag the velcrow and than start hitting the real knots . you can do it , bet on on Chopper , he knows , cause thats like a bike (nike),just do it ! Wait , Riggsy has skills , oh no ! STOP ! change the line ! Chopper is younger ! Riggs is Quick ! OH nO we got a game . You know you have to be young to tie a knot fast . Bring it Chopper ! on a side note , I met a guy years ago , at a bar at a show , and I bet him I could splice a stable braid faster than him . we drank we laughed , he was older , funny , but I was serious . Never did race him but we were friends . His name was Stanley , great guy ( legend), I won his knot tying contest too , that was years ago , I got game Chopper , I'm almost 50 , can you beat Riggys ! Practice < don;t go Allan Iverson < practice ! let me know , thanks!
