Sherrill Backbone

What was the problem with a strap and a biner. Silly peice of metal can't save that much time. Also, my boss doesn't buy spliced rigging lines, Do you think you are supposed to tie knots to THE BACKBONEtm!!!

great point

I think I'll have to give it a try one of these days. I've got to agree with Kevin, I kinda like it too. But if anybody gets one and can give some opinions that aren't simply based on what we've seen in the catalogue I'd love to hear them. Where are you Tobe? Tell us about your new toy!

Seems pretty cool.. Perhaps girth hitching the post will reduce the threat of the sling popping off. I would be pretty nervous rigging out anything just laying the sling over the post.

Maybe they can develop a heavy duty spring loaded gate on the post that the slings drop into.

Good idea, but the way its pictured in the magazine and web site shows way to much room for disaster

With that said, I may buy one. :0

I am open to knotless rigging, and may even give it a try if I come across one at work, I do not see myself buying something like this for the fact of cost and hesanarborist made a good point of getting slings and biners instead. Also, never had a knot stop working..tied and true..

So i like the idea and the concept, but it really is hard to beat a good steel biner. I definitly dont see blocking big chunks with that or a biner. Knots for me. Im not a fan of spliced eyes in rigging either. Scaffold knot on a steel biner is hard to beat.

I bought it at the expo . Can't wait to use it , I'm splicing half inch dblbraid , bought slings . It's gonna be my Pine tree removal deal . I'm setting up a whole deal just for White Pines for this backbone. great idea , if it sucks , I'll let you know . Been a while since I wanted something new . Like it !

Riggs,

When you do that job let me know. Maybe I can come down and watch/take pics. Then everybody can see you in all your awesomeness!

Nick , I don't trust carabiners for rigging . See way too many break . I use them for zip lines , but I have used them and sraps to multi lower limbs before . The bone feels solid , and after doing trees for so long , It's nice to have new and cool , and there's not too much of that anymore for rigging supplies . The x rings and the backbone , cmon now . Good stuff . I'm gonna place it preset in a rope bag , might even get a cobra snake flute to get it to set itself .
On another note , they always let the new people untie the limbs on the ground , that can get painful looking down , it makes you want to carry a bag of rocks when you see the dumbest person on the ground trying to untie multiple limbs . The first idiot I see undoing the bone from the lowering line ( and there will be someone) is getting a notch whipped at him from above .

Just got mine. Stoked!

I use steel biners all the time.

This thing is way bigger than I imagined it, def A step above a steel biner in the beef dept. Don't get whacked in the face with this!

Speaking of groundies struggling to untie knots, how about ones struggling with biners? Wow...I'm up here doing this with one hand.

Couldn't wait for my splicing tools to come home . I used "DA Bone " today . I took down a Sandy damaged Silver Maple in Chestnut Hill . I tied it to the lowering line and used it for multi limbs at the top and some of the smaller lead wood . Worked like a charm , I'm gonna have a lot of fun with this tool . Two thumbs up .

I use this Bone all the time now , must have taken down a dozen large trees with it , I can't see it coming off . I'll never say never , but it's gone smooth for me . I rubber dipped both ends because the thing swings around alot , like a mini crane ball . I took two large trees down with the bone and the x rings this week , that makes me cooler than Grover . Good tool , well thought out .
