I'm under the weather today :baba: so I stayed home and finished a couple sewing projects.

First is a magnetic closure lanyard bag for my 23' lanyard that @yoyoman was kind enough to sew some eyes on and get me a decent clip for.

The second is a drawstring bag for my new collapsible bucket throwline kit I put together with some new zingit.

@evo Are you still sewing?

Yes and no.. I’ve made a grip of rope bags, and some webbing slings. The new babe has sucked up any minimal free time I’ve had on top of running my business..
however I do have a new to me national walking foot machine which I haven’t set up yet. Hoping to get some v138 or v210 thread if it will take v210.. I actually went through most my sewing kit last night and have quite a few ideas. Thinking of making a OG SAKA and a few other bits.

Nice, National makes good machines, be sure to post what you make. I have a chest harness in the works but the sewing part is minimal.

Wood working is a lot of fun...seeing a tree become something else

Welding...controlling a short circuit to melt metal

Sewing is a good creative skill. So many ways to be quietly creative indoors. Mom taught me to sew when I was in 8th grade
I always felt like sewing these little projects is very gratifying, something about making and using something you would normally have to buy at a store.

Sewing is very useful. My mother in law let me borrow her sewing machine since she never used it. I learned how to use it and made a shooting mat, some bags for camping, and modified a backpack. Then her other daughter took it. I'd love to get another one someday, they're so handy to have.

I keep one eye on craigslist, and the other on Facebook for-sale groups for a used commercial machine, if I ever get cash and opportunity to cross at the same time, I will jump at it. Until then, I will keep forgetting to take my heavy duty needle and bobbin out of my wife's quilting machine.

I've been playing with a speedy stitcher lately. Neat tool. My stitches are pretty ugly, but I've made a throw bag, a knee ascender, and I'm working on a suspender thing with a chest tending spot for my saddle.

The bags look pretty damn professional!!

What kind of lanyard adjuster is that?

One thing that helps is to lay the needle down horizontal pointing at the last stitch, measure from tip to the eye, and make your next stitch there

Mr Mumford, my buddy is a patent inspector for diesel injectors. He says it only takes a subtle change in the design get around a patents art work. Just have to change the art work of the original saka a little to be in the clear if that’s the case. The stein knee ascender is similar but not the same design as the saka or the other design. Modify the old strap body and sell it as a modular setup with the mini? Modular systems seem like they’d be well received. There’s more than one way to set up an mrs and srs right?

Thanks, I'm very well versed now in patent law, not by choice.
Here is what it takes to get a new patent.

So, if someone (I am in no way inferring to my particular case) is of the opinion that you have infringed on their patent you must prove that you have not in the courts. Cost to do that at the low end is around a half mil.

Sorry to derail this thread, so let it get back to threads before I pop a stitch.

Speedy stitchers are a cool little device, I picked one up but my daughter took it to work on doll projects and I didn't get it back yet. Might have to get another for me.

That lanyard adjuster is branded NTR which I believe is a Chinese knock off company. It is solid built, small profile and can be released partially loaded since there are no teeth. I wish I could find the original if it exists, it's my favorite design.

Also Grrrrr!
Yes, me too. A patent in the US is borderline useless if one is a small outfit and on limited budget for legal expenses. A US patent carries no enforcement at all; the entire burden is on the patentee and so it completely favours the big guys.

I must say, I have both the original SAKA and the SAKA mini, and the mini is my go-to now. So portable and compact, and easily works as well as the original. I bought a second mini and use it retracted all the way down on my other foot, so basically have a mini on each foot. It works better than a foot ascender since the pull is on the centre of my foot, not the side. The entire pair of them wads up into a coat pocket on a hike. Thanks, Richard! And congrats on getting the mini into WesSpur's new catalogue.

I've got a consew 227 cylinder bed with #136 bonded poly thread and a cowboy cb3200 with 346 thread. I take great pleasure in making canvas or cordura rope bags, daisy chain equipment slings, equipment covers, installing webstrap handles, hemming jeans, zipper replacement ect. One of the bluto bullys i used to work with said "sewing...isn't that gay ?" I quickly reminded him that needing a woman or your mommy to do man's work, is gay. I'm a certified welder-fabricator-machinist, tree trimmer, ex big wave surfer, ex dirt bike racer. So my manhood is on point. There's something about being self sufficient that fulfills my station in life.

At one job I had I noticed that the edge piping was coming loose because the thread broke. Without the piping the layers of the back pad would start to come apart. I asked the guy if he'd like me to sew it back down. We arranged a day to do it before work. I brought my machine, its portable in and did the repair. Many of the workers were interested in seeing what we were doing. Simple repair. We got the machine put away before the crew meeting in the morning. When the meeting got going there was a little chatter about the repair. Since it wasn't a life support issue it was a legit repair. There was a crew leader that piped up and said: YOu gotta wonder about a guy who paints his gear pink and sews.

He thought his feet were in clouds...a snot.

My reply...with all the production staff in the room..".I'm comfortable with my sexuality."

A couple of workers sprayed coffee out their noses. Many chuckles.

Later, after the meeting a few others came up and gve me high fives for taking him down a peg..nicely
