Setting a retrievable tie in from the ground

If you double the rope and pull up both ends simultaneously with a single throw-line, the soft eye will only go for a ride with very little pressure and little (if any) wear. It would be good to monitor the eye for wear if you did this technique very often. You also need to pre-load the snap with throw-line and convince the bitter end of the running side to pass through, otherwise you'd have to climb to it and set it up for retrieval.

What I really feel is that the pulleySAVER is the type of tool best set from within the canopy, and not remotely.

Could you use a floating false crotch instead? That would make for easy install & soft retrieval.

i use a buckingham friction saver. inexpensive, durable, and can be installed and retrieved from the ground. responds well with my vt. hitch. so im sure it will work wonders with a mech hitch.

Hi Wolter,

It is not recommended to set the Teufelberger pulleySAVER from the ground as you describe in your instructions. The reason being that the throw line will damage the soft eye of pulleySAVER.

the only way we could get it was with the climbline running through the pulley AND the soft eye, which obviously is way less than ideal as the friction of the rope on the soft eye would wear it out pretty quickly.

It sounds like you are not going to do that. However, if anyone else thinks about it... DO NOT use the pulleySAVER this way... ever! Super dangerous! You will definitely wear through the material extremely quickly... minutes or possibly seconds depending upon your descent speed. Please do not ever do this, even over a short distance. Even throw line running across the soft eye can damage it quite quickly.

If you have seen my design (in the picture to the left, my avatar) this design protects the eye from damage via the throwline, so it is possible to set it up from the ground, and I do have a method.
