Set line on microcender on SRT line?

I somtimes like to set my climbing line on my doubled footlock line using a pulley, but im not footlocking much anymore and wondering what the options are for doing this on SRT line.

Would you trust a microcender with a pulley on it atachend to the SRT line with a knot under it for added safety?

Also just noticed the instructions on the petzl microcender say approximate strength 18kN

I like the ascender idea because its easy to advance up the rope when you want to go higher.

I wouldn't set a climbing system on ANY ascender for working. It is too easy to tie a proper loop knot in the access line then clip a biner/pulley to work from. This is much safer.

Tom, I climb Doubled Rope off of SRT all the time and feel it is very safe (even with hard side pulls) the way that I have it setup. The technique I use was one Jeff Jepson presented back in the April 1995 issue of TCI magazine.

Basically I ascend with a Petzl Ascentree attached to a static 10 mm line. A 2.4" S.Steel Aluminum Cmi pulley attaches to the bottom of the Ascentree and my doubled line runs through the pulley and my HitchClimber attaches it all to my TreeFlex floating bridge.

A pair of Petzl suspenders attaches the Croll chest ascender to the SRT line and the attachment point on the TreeFlex saddle is perfect for this.

I ascend SRT either modified frog style with a Pantin on my right foot, or with both a pantin on my right foot and foot strap on my left foot, which is attached to the Ascentree.

When I reach my TIP, I clip a biner through the top hole of the ascender and tie a friction hitch set tight as a backup. I then dettach from the Croll and Pantin and already have my Floating Falsh Crotch setup with the pulley.

Everything is smooth and safe and time efficient. Jeff Jepson used the Mar-Bar for ascending, but the Tree Frog system is more efficient IMO.

The Ascentree is backed up with a friction hitch and biner clipped through the top holes. It IS tied loosely while ascending, so the ascender fair leads it on the way up. When I reach my TIP, I just set the friction hitch snuggly and test it to make sure that it grabs.

The Croll doesn't attach to the Ascentree. It is attached to my TreeFlex saddle by a seperate attachment point on the saddle, specifically setup for SRT. The suspenders keep it from flopping around.

You could also say that the Croll acts as a backup for the Ascentree while ascending SRT.
