Sequoia Swing ?

Thinking about buying the Sequoia Swing and do not have the ability to try it out first. I prune a lot of big trees and personly love having the seat, but lately I have been doing more removals and have heard it isn't built to distribute the weight that is put on the D rings day in and day out doing removals. Like I said I have only heard this and dont think it a fact as of yet. This will be somewhat of a selling point for me in buying this harness so any information or opinions would help.
Thank you all.

Welcome to the Buzz!

This is all my personal experience, and can be taken with a grain of salt.

I think that bosun style saddles are the most uncomfortable things ever built. I don't know what it is, but when my weight is on the seat, it feels like my legs are in a vise. Positioning is really enhanced with the added mobility of separate leg loops.

I went through a bunch of different saddles before coughing up the scratch for a TreeMOTION. I wish it was the first saddle I ever bought, but you live and learn. There are many great saddles out there for a bit less money, and I'm not on commission, but I haven't found another saddle that compares.

Are there any Arborist Supply Shops in your area that can let you try a few different models out? The trip may be worth it!

Thank you for the input, and hearing personal experiences are always welcome with me. I find it to be the best way to broden my horizons, may lead me to try something new and help me become a better climber. We all know there is more than one way to skin a cat.

I think I'm going to take a trip to WesSpur this week end and try it on.

I've had a totally different experience with bosun seat harnesses. I earned my first one in 94 or 95 and loved it! The Buckingham Pinnacle was the only harness I ever bought twice then a third. Going back to individual leg straps has been the biggest adjustment for me. I'm on my second TM and I like it but I never had a cross moment in my Pinnacles. They prolonged my career by taking all the knee knock out of my climbing. I've wanted to try the Swing for a long time though.

I dig my bosun seat harness I have been rocking the Buckingham Traverse and have nothing bad to say about the comfort or quality. I have just had my eye on the Swing for a long time now and need a new harness and would love to put it in my arsenal. I have just heard mixed reviews on how it handels during big Fir removals.

I don't personally care for bosun seat saddles, but I've used a couple in the past that I liked just fine. After wearing out my 1st Sequoia SRT, I ordered the Swing recently...not a big fan. Felt like every time you leaned, you'd slide down the seat in that direction. And it was a struggle to get back to center. It's a hard saddle to walk around in...trips you up. Also, the board sticks out on the ends and seems to catch on everything, especially the chainsaw hanging off the clip.

Petzl is a great company though. Their logo seems to be on 90% of my gear somehow. Plus, they sent me leg loops to replace the seat and I've been happy ever since.

Anybody want the seat?

Gday mate,

I climbed for about 12 years with a buckingham harness with a seat(About 4 or 5 of the same type).

I succumbed to popular opinion and got the tree motion and really liked it straight away, very compact little number.

I used the TM for 2 years, replacing the bridge and rings about 4 times. I had to give the serial number of the harness to an employee which was the time I realised the harness swl was 100 kgs. I weigh 110 kg buck naked so I quickly got another harness, the sequoia swing.

I love it! Took a bit to get used to the bulkiness comparred to the TM but my balls are never getting squashed like they were almost daily with the TM.

The width of the seat is adjustable and if you keep the leg straps loose you wont notice the seat until your ready to sit down, which is so nice and comfy.

I do a lot of removals and I think the harness suits that work slightly more but often prune with it and have no worries.

I have the tree motion takes some time too adjust it too the perfect fit tm is good for triming an when im doing removals ill use my ergo hands down best saddle for carrying weight im not a bunson seat guy i started in a versitle saddle almost 9 years for about 6 months an i hated it felt like i had no movement soo i went too the leg straps an ive never went back ive tryed the peztl sequia an didnt feel it at all no padding an i dont think it would stand up too everyday climbing but thats why they make all shapes an sizes with options for everyones styles

Made the call and bought the Swing it was at the shop when I got off work so I adjusted it and hung around on an Alder before heading home it felt comfortable in the seat. Removals all day tomorrow so Ill be able to answer my own ? by the end of the day. Thank you for all your imput.

There are many adjustments for this harness.

If you pull everything in tight you will feel like you might fall out of the harness, and the seat unbalances you.

Best advice is to keep the back seat bungees loose and leg straps loose(my leg straps are that loose they touch my knees at times).

The seat is there for you to rest. you dont need it when positioning in the tree so there is no reason to keep it tight on yourself.

It is a great harness once you dial it in.

Good luck with it.
