Just got back from the redwoods, with my share of salmonberry scratches, too. 1/4 recreation and 3/4 work. Here's a few pics from the weekend. Autumn is arriving, and the colors intensify some. A little leaf color, but many shades of greens and silver from lichens, mosses and liverworts. This first one is in the middle of the park near Howland Hill Rd.
Personally, I like autumn and winter the best, but enjoy time there all year.
In the west season, the mosses and liverworts intensify color on trunks. But as dramatic is the increase of view. When the leaves fall off the maples, there are vistas available to see and photograph that are not visible in the spring or summer.
Here's one of a spot inside Jed Smith. The bough across is an old Hemlock.
Not the redwood. Never heard a name for the burl other than it may look primate-like. This one below has a name. Finally got the shot I wanted after a couple of years. An older shot of this redwood on a rainy misty day got me thinking that it may look best photographed in wet weather. This one is slightly darker printed, and looks really cool as an 11 x 14. Just framed this one this week in a 16 x 20 frame matted to 11 x 14.

On the note of "get back" out there, I just got together about 2 weeks ago with a man who just came back out again from Germany. He came to the coast redwoods last year. We explored 2 full days. One day was up in the forest above highway 199 and over the hill in Jedediah Smith. This pic was from Prairie Creek.
That's been one more nice thing about the redwoods. Its opened a lot of introductions and new acquaintances from other countries or west coast towns.
Winter weather is settling in and a new wave of storm fronts are on the way. Makes for some great windfall shots in the redwoods. Amazing destruction and creation at the same time.

Sure would be interesting to catch a photo sometime when a redwood crushes the parkway in Prairie Creek, but they usually lock the gate.
I was noticing that where new pavement was laid, there were log ends to the side.
On another note, check this out ... workers were off ... so we hiked up the new, but still closed, new section of Tall Trees Grove trail.
