Sequoia National Park

So my awesome wife is taking me to see the giants this year. I'm looking for advice on where to stay and what areas I don't want to miss. We're spending a week between yosemite and sequoia. Exact dates are up in the air, but we are thinking late Spring early summer.
Thanks for the help

I was there (Sequoia) the first or second week in October of 2011 and the timing was perfect! Crowds were thinned out and the weather was perfect. With the thin crowds you could really take your time and when you get a little bit away from the main areas, the forest becomes incredibly hushed, even though there are a lot of people around. Don't miss a hike up Morro(SP) rock. The view back to the east on up to the western divide is spectacular. I took over 260 pictures in two days there and lost them during downloading operstions so I will have to make a return trip. The neat thing about Yosemite and Sequoia is if you are a fan of John Muir, you have the privilege of walking in his literal footsteps. I have done this in two places he has traveled, Bonaventure Cemetary in Savannah Georgia and Sequoia NP.
Good luck on the trip and enjoy the time.

That's great hiking up there. The trees are great. The rocks are great. The cliff the mountains and the rivers are great too. I hiked 8 miles up 2000 feet along a river and passed Emerald Pool in 1 day. My 75 year old friend I went hiking with who paid for the trip was not please at all with that lol. I got him back though lol.

Keep your eye out for the bears :-)

place on the west edge of yosemite--evergreen something--is nice for couples, but the lodges in the valley are nice too. agree winter is a great time to see it all!

i visit every few years; like a pilgrimage...

That's Awesome Mr. Views-
That is one of the places my wife and I want to see before we die. Enjoy it... no matter where you stay, it will be an amazing trip!

That's it! I missed Portland this year, and I've missed Alaska with my brother for the last 3. I'm gonna set up a West Coast tour in 2013.

I know a bunch of people that are well travelled, and they all say things like "I've been all around the country, and there's just no place like home.", but something tells me I just have to experience what you all do.

Thanks for the guide, Gerald! Now, Tania's a vegetarian, so what should she order?

Thanks for all the good tips. I was actually looking at staying at Wucksacki already.
In looking at some good hikes, I was looking at Redwood canyon. Any others must dos? Other than the congress trail?

Oh, there's vegetarian on the menu too.

That hike into redwood canyon is a long one and best done as a couple day camp/hike. It's so big.

Terri and I will be there in March. Always an iffy time of the year, and so I'm crossing my fingers on the weather and hope not to get snowed in or out.

The last few visits have worked out perfect. It's a mighty big park and a week is not enough time to cover all the trails. Unless you were jogging maybe.

Because I'm always packing a camera and tripod it extends the time on trails for me. Generally sun up to sun down. and then the meatball and a bottle of wine in the evening to follow.

Luck. I know you're going to love it.

Oceans, if you make a "West Coast Tour", make time for the Olympic Peninsula. Numerous micro climates and old growth forests make it a tree adventure haven. Some of the largest/oldest hemlocks and spruces on the planet. Truly a must-see place.

Arbor Enhance, thanks for the tip. I really want to make it happen this year. Someone told me that if you just schedule it well ahead of time, then you're bound to do it!

Soooo much to see on the West coast. There's no way we could take the time off to tackle it all at once, so we are going to do week long adventures and try to group a few together. Even amongst the individual parks it is extremely overwhelming. Nonetheless I'm still looking forward to cramming as much in as I can!
