Sena Communications.....whats new?

good thread! thanks for the info everyone. I have been thinking about going this route but haven't pulled the trigger yet. maybe i will see what motorola offers to match up with my hand helds....
Don't wait! Order a pair off amazon or ebay and see how you like them. You'll soon order a set for the whole crew and wonder how you ever did tree work without them.

According to the literature which came with my Sena 10r, it'll pair with phones, and pretty much any bluetooth headset, regardless of brand. You might not get all the bells and whistles that you would if you were pairing with other sena devices, but they say it'll work.

Word!
Which units do you have?
We had the pro coms, one of them after a year, ate batteries every day...we bought them from a non dealer on eBay for at 50% msrp, so no warranty on them.

I think I'm going back to some of the new peltors soon.
I use the Peltor power com plus headsets. I recommend the Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable double A batteries. I keep a charger in my truck so I always have fresh batteries to switch out. I find that a charge will last several days if you keep the surround sound turned off and the eneloops will last for many years. I got 7 years out of my first batch until they started to go bad! Great radios. Great batteries.

Best deal around i found was through revzilla.com...had our old pair for like 4 years...bought them from paul...new ones came in and noise canceling is like 100 times better...i think my first ones were broke to begin with...

Me too. Best price I found, and they are local to me.

Yup! Same all around. The 10Rs are the way to go.

two words......chin strap??;) but seriously tho.....I was looking for a smaller helmet a while back and couldn't find one ANSI rated that went small enough. there are plenty of rock climbing helmets out there with other ratings, just not ANSI, that go small enough. I bought a "Climbing Technology" helmet and it does a good job, I just hope the ANSI police don't show up and check our helmets lol!

We too have had sena's for about 3 years now...they are nice.
They do not even come close to the quality of noise canceling and 360 enhanced hearing abilities that out old expensive peltor-coms had. They were push to talk and worked on walkie talkie bands, so that part sucked. https://shop.actiontarget.com/conte...2-way-communications-electronic-ear-muffs.asp

they have mics underside on both muffs that pic up sound amazingly yet cancel it over a certain decible.

just found these

come on treestuff get on this already!!
I'm not thrilled with the wires getting beat up from my ears going up and down all day on my 10 (s? I think). I've also dropped it three times in a year. Those look like a solution.

Petzl eloise?
I think the elios comes in two sizes so it fills all the gaps from picchu (my 3 year old wears one) to the vertex. Petzl is way more into making helmets of all sizes than manufacturers that I really prefer for comfort.

We use the 10r's I believe. No Complaints. We can talk while chipping, running saws, etc. No its not perfect but we can still communicate and its better then yelling in a customers yard. Tapping out to listen to tunes instead of the noise is helpful too. We bought a set on amazon for short money. They are east to install and would not go back to not having any type of communication. Good luck!

One option would be to unplug the mic on the chipper guys helmet. He could do hand signals if he needs to get someone's attention. Or you could even wire a switch on his helmet for his mic?

I have the original sena communications. They work really good for the fact that you can talk with your crew. I have had them on every helmet for the last 3 years. Here are some of the things I am hoping an upgrade can help with.

1. Noise cancelation. The climber and crane operate can mic in with no problem. But if you add the ground crew...who are standing next to the chipper then the climber and crane operator can not hear each other. Is this just something we have to deal with?

2. The batteries cause loose connections now and it can be hard to hear...or, you can not hear someone but they can hear you.

Would any of the new more updated versions fix any of this? And, where is the best place to purchase them?

Just ordered the Sena 10s system. My biggest complaint would be pairing up with more than one headset with the SMH10. The 10s has a phone app which I think will solve this issue. It also works with the SMH10 mounts and can pair with SMH10 units. Ill post up how they work out once they come in this week.

Let us know if your able to pair them with the SMH 10's. I have 2 sets of 4 and on each set which are close to 5 years old I've got 2 that won't hold charges anymore. Was thinking of buying the 2 pack to replace them.

I've been using the 10r's. One of the benefits are the batteries are external and replaceable.
