Self Tightening Chain

My polesaw likes to tighten itself when in use and I really can't figure out what the problem is. I have changed the sprocket several times and tighten down the nut like there's no tomorrow. Whan the saw is turned off, there's about one inch of space between the bar and chain (bottom). When I'm using it, the chain will actually rotate like it has been over adjusted.

Any thoughts?

Is the jam nut on the end of the adjusting screw working? Most of the time a nylock nut is used. If that nut is gone the adjusting screw can rotate and move the adjusting nut with the tab that engages the bar to move even if the sidecover is snug. It happened to me once many years ago and it was a tough one to diagnose.

I'll check out the nut, and could be the wrong sprocket. I never thought about checking the pitch. It's my dads, so I have a feeling it's the wrong sprocket. I'm not saying he's blind, just getting old;)

Thanks to all!

I had the same problem with 2 ms200t's. For those it was a clogged oiler. It occurs just a couple minutes into cutting. I would think heat would expand the chain but it is worth a shot.
